2026 is the Zelda series’ 40th anniversary. With that in mind, there have been many speculations on what the next Zelda game could be. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the entry fans are anticipating to receive the remake treatment. Before Breath of the Wild came along back in 2017, Ocarina of Time was the most popular game in the series. First released in 1998, it was ahead of its time. Not only was it the first Zelda game to be in 3D, it also was the first to utilize the Z-targeting mechanic seen in later games.
If it is announced at the next Nintendo Direct, it will follow the pattern of being one of the many remakes either announced or released during a major anniversary year for The Legend of Zelda. To modernize Ocarina of Time, there are a lot of things we could see from Nintendo. For instance, there could be a Light Temple that players would have to get through in order to receive the Light Medallion from Rauru, the Sage of Light instead of getting it as soon as Link becomes an adult. This new take could make way for all-new side quests and flesh out Rauru’s character more.
Another welcome addition would be allowing Link to use weapons other than the bow while riding Epona. In later games such as Twilight Princess, players could use swords while on horseback. It was even required to progress in certain points of the story.
