The new Animal Crossing: New Horizons Zelda update is out now

The new 3.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons was just released on January 17th! This update includes a number of new Zelda themed items for decorating your island and new outfits and accessories to dress up your own character as Link, Zelda and other characters. There’s even two new villagers from The Legend of Zelda series who can become permanent residents on your island. While this isn’t the first time Hyruleans have graced the Animal Crossing franchise, it’s nice to see this crossover finally make a return.

Let’s start off with the decorating items, accessories and clothing that can be purchased. First, to unlock these on your island, you’ll need to use a Legend of Zelda character amiibo at the in-game kiosk in Resident Services. Once you’ve done that, these items become available for purchase and can be ordered through the catalog. Please be aware that you can only order 5 items from the catalog per day, so you won’t be able to get all of them at once. Unless of course you decide to pull a Link and time travel into the future in typical Zelda fashion by skipping ahead a day on your Switch’s calendar!

Feel free to click through the slideshow to see all of the cool 28 new items including a wearable Majora’s Mask, the famous Ocarina of Time instrument and even a Decayed Guardian. We’ve included the amount of Bells each item costs. As a side note, make sure to listen closely when you change into one of the new Zelda themed clothing items as there may be a fun surprise waiting for you.

Moving onto the next exciting part of the update, there are two new Zelda residents who can now live on your island.

The first one is Mineru, a snooty personality type villager. Her catchphrase is “construct,” fitting, no? Her birthday is May 12th, the same day that Tears of the Kingdom first released in 2023! A cool element of hers is that when she is surprised or shocked, the third eye atop her head actually opens.

The other new Zelda villager is Tulin, a jock personality type villager. His catchphrase is “gust” in relation to him being a Sage of Wind in Tears of the Kingdom. His birthday is March 3rd, the same day that Breath of the Wild released back in 2017.

In a very helpful post, Reddit user ShokaLGBT made a visual guide showing which specific Zelda amiibos could be scanned in to get each villager! Whenever Mineru’s Construct amiibo releases in the future, we can only assume that it should work to unlock Mineru as well.

Remember, you’ll need to invite them to your island three separate times using one of the specific amiibo and fulfill the tasks they want before you’re able to invite them to live there as one of your island residents.

Alongside all of these fantastic Zelda additions to the game, there are a number of new quality of life updates, new dream islands that you can decorate called Slumber Islands, Splatoon items and villagers, a new Hotel area and even new Lego themed items.

Will you be tuning into Animal Crossing: New Horizons with all of these new updates? Maybe this is your sign to start a Zelda themed island? If you’re curious about every single new addition, a complete list of patch notes for the 3.0 update can be found here!
