Breath of the Wild meets Yoasobi in fanmade anime intro

Anime is often known for its elaborate opening title sequences, and Breath of the Wild now has an anime opening of its own thanks to outstanding fan animation.

The project was created in 2023 by a student at the Chungkang Animation School in South Korea but was released to YouTube last month. Using a gorgeous Ghibli-inspired art style, the video attempts to portray various game elements ranging from the world, story, and characters, even going as far as including scenes from pivotal Zelda games like Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time. Each shot is brimming with excitement and gives the nearly eight-year-old game an exciting and fresh feel.

The background music is set to RGB by the famous Japanese group Yoasobi, who is known for hits such as 2020’s “Into the Night” and 2023’s “Idol”. Even though RGB was by no means created for Breath of the Wild, the lyrics about childhood friends who are still connected despite fate taking them in different directions are oddly fitting. Furthermore, though likely unintentional, the RGB color pallet consists of the colors green, blue, and red which are the same colors commonly used for the three pieces of the Triforce. With how well the song fits into the theming it’s almost hard to believe it was not created for this animation.

With the Nintendo Switch winding down, what better to celebrate its life than with this incredibly well-crafted animation of the launch title that set the tone for the console moving forward?
