The wonders never cease in the world of modding. A few weeks ago, we showed off some of the Smash-inspired modding creations of notCHase, and this time we’re back with another of their projects, a fusion of inspirations that turns Ocarina of Time’s Hyrule into a playground.
Shield surfing is a mechanic that stands out among Breath of the Wild’s many gameplay innovations, mainly for being plain cool and extremely fun when you find the perfect hill to careen down. Tears of the Kingdom took it a step further, allowing for rail grinding a la Tony Hawk, and making use of the Fuse ability to engineer sledding combinations with unreal speed.
Now, notCHase fuses the whimsy of shield surfing with the “plain cool” factor of the Tony Hawk games, bundled with the 64-era charm of Ocarina of Time’s engine and world. This new method of traversal is smooth, dynamic and incredibly efficient, by the looks of it. Take a peek:
There are all kinds of movement capabilities with this mod, including grinding along the tops of fences and walls, bombing down hills at speeds far greater than Epona could manage, riding and kicking off walls to bridge certain gaps, executing hit-and-run combat against all manner of enemies, and probably so much more that couldn’t fit in this little showcase video. Movement mods such as this are always a treat; it’s fun to crack an old game open and override all of the linear progression requirements — especially when it entails doing kick flips, half-pipes and highway-speed Spin Attacks. If Ganondorf isn’t wearing a pair of shades when Link skates up, he might concede the fight automatically, dazzled by Link’s sheer coolness.
