Tingle’s Maps: The Bargainer Statues

One of the great beauties of Tears of the Kingdom’s world design is the level of mystery and wonder, blending the familiar with the new. Even though the player has returned to the same Hyrule from Breath of the Wild, they are still met with unexpected secrets and hidden marvels at every turn. Among these discoveries, nestled in the shadowy recesses of The Depths, we find the Bargainer Statues. These statues, shrouded in secrecy, became personal favorite locations of mine to visit.

The Depths, while seemingly empty at first sight, actually hides many secrets amidst its shadows. A total of six Bargainer Statues can be found while exploring in Hyrule’s abyss, however one can actually be found on the surface in Josha’s research hut at Lookout Landing. Each statue is a colossus that stands four to five times Link’s height (except for the one in Lookout Landing), resembling earthen giants with engraved four-eyed faces –- at least that is my interpretation — that stand as lonely guardians of The Depths.

The statues are not just art pieces; they serve an interesting purpose. When interacted with, they beckon for Poes: lost spirits wandering aimlessly in The Depths –- of which there are thousands, a testament to this place’s eerie nature.

These statues do not just call out for the spirits; they are traders in their own right, offering players treasure and gear in exchange for these wayward souls so they might be sent to the afterlife. Among these treasures are the Dark Armor set and the Armor of the Depths set, both sought after not only for their mechanical advantages, but also for fashionable appeal. This unique trading system adds yet another layer of depth to an already complex game.

The Bargainer Statues are more than just remarkable landmarks to be found; they’re a testament to Tears of the Kingdom’s intricate design and storytelling. The statues bring a sense of mystery and discovery within this expansive world. The allure of the statues, coupled with their practical role in the game, showcases the ample thought and creativity poured into Tears of the Kingdom, making it an immersive and unforgettable experience.
