It’s no secret that Breath of the Wild features some of the most gorgeous, breathtaking locations in a Zelda game. From tranquil lakes to ancient ruins, there are a ton of different areas to admire and explore to your heart’s content. However, when playing through Breath of the Wild for the first time, there was one area that particularly captured my interest. That place was Satori Mountain.
Satori Mountain is named after the Lord of the Mountain, Satori, where the mystical creature resides. The name of the mountain is also a homage to former Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, who was involved in the production of Breath of the Wild and also the head developer of the Nintendo Switch at the time. In 2015, he tragically passed away due to complications from a bile duct tumor, but his spirit lives on through the Lord of the Mountain as a tribute.
The mountain is located on the west side of Central Hyrule, sitting between the Gerudo Highlands and Tabantha region. There are a few different paths you can take that will lead you to this destination, but no matter the route, you are bound to come across Satori Mountain at one point or another.
Upon inspection near the base of the mountain, there is a quaint camping area with a tent, Rusty Shield, and Rusty Broadsword. There is also a cooking area near the eastern edge of the mountain. It’s clear that someone was previously here, but who? Legend says the Lord of the Mountain is the reincarnation of an ancient sage who died protecting the animals and surrounding land, so it can be inferred the various tools and items seen here once belonged to the sage.

On the south side of the mountain, you will find the Mogg Latan Shrine, which features the Synced Swing trial. There are also several Korok puzzles sprinkled throughout the mountain to find and solve. Oh, joy. Also along the southern base of the mountain, you can find some Hearty Durian trees to farm.
If you ever find yourself low on items or supplies, Satori Mountain is the place to be, as it is the perfect harvesting spot. Various herbs and plants from all across Hyrule can be found here for your convenience. At the far southern end of the mountain, you will find an abundance of Sunshrooms, Razorshrooms, Hearty Truffles, and even Ores. On the far eastern side, there are flowers to collect such as Blue Nightshade, Mighty Thistle, Armoranth, and Warm Safflina. There is also a giant apple orchard and some pitchfork tools.

At the very top of the mountain sits a lone cherry blossom tree by a serene pond and quiet meadow. If you acquired the Champions’ Ballad DLC pack, you can find the chest containing part of the Sheikah horse gear, the Ancient Bridle, next to the cherry blossom tree. This is the perfect spot to unwind and watch the sunset after a long adventure.

Occasionally, the top of the mountain will emit a mysterious cyan aura, signifying the Lord of the Mountain’s presence. However, the ethereal creature is not alone, and tends to be accompanied by a hoard of Blupees. It is unknown why the Blupees flock in numbers, but it’s almost like they are paying their respects to the Lord of the Mountain.
If you are stealthy enough, the Lord of the Mountain can be mounted and tamed, but unfortunately it disappears shortly after dismounting. It also cannot be registered at a stable (it’s a bad omen according to Embry), but it’s still fun to ride around Hyrule nonetheless. After all, who wouldn’t want to ride a mythical beast?

Though the mountain is peaceful and clear of enemies during the day, a single Stalnox appears at night alongside one of the eastern slopes. A few minor enemies, like Stalkoblins, Stalmoblins, and Stalizalfos, will spawn as well. Defeating the Stalnox rewards you with Hinox Teeth and some rare weapons. It’s also interesting to note that enemies will temporarily disappear as long as the Lord of the Mountain is present.
After stocking up on items and relaxing under the cherry blossom tree, it is time to continue on with the adventure. Yet, not before taking the time to admire the magnificent view of nearly every major Hyrule landmark from the top of Satori Mountain.
