Years ago, I might have looked at the word “fanzine” and figured it goes best with alfredo sauce and a hint of red pepper. But then, years ago I was not yet quite so invested in fandoms like ours.
As most of you likely knew before I did, the silly lad I am, a fanzine is a subset of magazines, commonly written and produced by amateurs, that centers on a particular subject (most often some form of entertainment). In other words, it’s usually an unofficial magazine. And, well, since The Legend of Zelda is the bee’s knees and all, it was inevitable that a cool-looking Zelda fanzine would arise to tease our wallets.
Behold Seal the Darkness, a stylishly named fanzine sporting an equally stylish logo hosted by the good folks who run Linktober.

Forty artists, seven merchandise creators, and five writers of Zelda-based fiction are coming together for this most impressive endeavor. Seal the Darkness will center on the many splendid swords in the Legend of Zelda franchise as well as the characters who have wielded them. I bet the artwork will be fantastic, but I’m particularly keen to dive into the written works.
No pressure yet, but you’ve got until September 22 to preorder this promising zine. Seal the Darkness will come in four varieties each with its own price tag, though honestly, I’m fairly impressed with the cost: $15 gets you a digital bundle, $25 is enough for a digital and physical copy, $40 then tosses in a neat little swag quartet, and finally $55 laughs at the $40 version by tossing in even more swag.
As of this writing, the estimated date of delivery for the all-digital Traveler’s Armory is late 2021, with the physical bundles to follow in early 2022. We’ll keep you apprised of any shifts in the timeframe.
Like what you see? Got a bit of spare cash hanging around for a quality zine? Go on, then, preorder away!
