Yuga’s Art Gallery: Outset Morning

They say that the best way to exercise mindfulness is to close your eyes and listen to the ocean waves rolling in and out. To feel the sun’s rays beating on your back until it burns through to the soul whilst inhaling the soft sea breeze and exhaling forgotten troubles. At this moment, as the wind caresses your face, you become one with the sea and the world seems to stop.

When I first came across DeviantArtist Banan-Chan’s “Outset Morning” piece, I felt connected to the relaxing element that was brought to life in such a powerful-yet-simple style. I could feel the comfort of the sun burning a warm orange through my closed eyes and the cool laps of water entrancing my submerged toes. I could imagine myself as Link sitting on that rock on Outset Island because I have been there so many times before, with that same peaceful expression on my face.

Inspired by The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker’s title screen, Banan-Chan captures the renowned toon aesthetic whilst creating the perfect portrayal of innocence. Link has not yet experienced the weird and wonderful world that can bring so much hardship and joy all at once. He is merely a child enjoying the beauty of his island without realizing that his whole life is about to change.
