Tingle’s Maps: Ordon Village

As the first light of dawn creeps over the mountain peaks surrounding Ordon Village, the chirps from the birds in the trees and the bellows from the goats on the ranch serve as signals to all that the day is ready to begin. Life is peaceful in Ordona Providence. The bustle of Hyrule Castle Town and the dangers of Hyrule Field are far removed from the modest lives of the Hylians who call the region home. It’s the type of place many would love to live, thrive, or raise a family in. This is why Link, who lives his life in Ordon Village as a humbler rancher, always does his best to help his neighbors whenever they are in need.

Solving problems almost seems like a career calling for Link, so it’s natural that he would find ways to help everyone in his hometown. There are plenty of people in Ordon Village who are always happy for Link to make their day.

This is why, after stumbling out of his tree home, still mesmerized by the unmatched comfort of a good night’s sleep, Link is eager to greet the Ordonian children — Colin, Beth, Talo, and Malo — who wait for him outside. They all look up to Link, whether they want to admit it or not, and are eager to learn new things from him. This time, they want to learn how to use a Slingshot. There’s an issue though: None of them own a Slingshot. But upon hearing that Sera, Beth’s mother, has one in stock at her store, Link decides that he’ll make their day. He’ll be back to see them again later.

Coming down through the stone pathway and into the center of town, Link gets a good look at how his village is fairing today. The green grass that carpets the ground and the green moss that coats the rocks that surround and protect the town emit signals that life is bustling within Ordon Village. So does the stream of clear water that nourishes everyone. All of the homes, a mix of one-story and two-story ranch buildings, are cozy and secure. And the pumpkin patches spotted around the lawns provide a valuable food source to accompany the delicious milk they receive from the goats. Agriculture is on display at its finest here in Ordon.

Done soaking in the sights, Link begins making his rounds, visiting all of his neighbors, and offering aid as he does. It’s impressive what he gets done so early in the morning. Almost right away, he helps Rusl’s wife find her missing baby basinet, and he catches a runaway goat as it gallops down the road from the Ordon Ranch and toward the center of town. The first act earns him a new fishing rod, a gift from Rusl’s son, Colin, and the second allows him to show off in front of Bo, the father of Link’s “special someone,” Ilia. Though the rewards aren’t the reasons he did what he did, it’s still nice when his actions earn some benefits.

Fishing is now on his mind thanks to the rod, but before he gets even more off track, he stops by Sera’s shop to inquire about the Slingshot. She does have one, amid her typical offerings that are set up in her dusty and messy storefront, but she’s not in the selling mood. Turns out, her beloved cat had run away, and the worry has taken a toll on her. Luckily for her, Link has excellent observation skills. Earlier, he had also spoken with Talo and Malo’s father, Jaggle, who pointed out that Sera’s cat was sitting by the water, staring intently at the fish swimming beneath the surface. Anyone could figure out what was on the cat’s mind.

Behind a large home with a windmill, Link casts his line out into the pond that is fed by the stream. It doesn’t take long for him to snag a green gill, but it takes even less time for the cat, which has been watching Link, to do some snagging of its own. It quickly swipes the fish and whisks it away back to Sera’s store, entering through a cat-sized door in the wall. With his work done after only doing half of it, Link returns to the store to find a much happier Sera, who finally sells him the Slingshot.

Back outside his home, Link shows the kids the Slingshot, and he also takes the time to show off his skill with his Wooden Sword, shooting and slashing the targets that the kids had set up around his house. They are amazed by Link, as usual. Though, the amazement leads Talo to make the rash decision to chase after a monkey and subsequently get captured by Bokoblins, requiring Link to find and rescue him. That setback aside, it was another job well done.

No more problems to solve, Link ventures up to the ranch to begin his workday. He loves his job on the ranch, a large enclosed field home to dozens of temperamental goats. The work is hard, but it’s rewarding, and that’s all that Link cares about.

The busy day finally ends, and a new day comes. It seems like a normal day, but Link corrals the goats back into the ranch’s barn early. He needs to end his workday so he can begin a special trip. Link is to make the journey to Hyrule Castle to deliver a gift to the royal family. He’s never been to the Hyrule Castle or Hyrule Castle Town before, but he’s more excited than nervous. As Link strides back down into town on Epona, he can only wonder what the day will bring. He loves his peaceful life, but maybe soon he’ll experience something new, something exciting. Maybe.
