Have you ever wanted to play Sony’s hit game Bloodborne but were just too put off by how spooky and complicated it is? Have you been itching for a new 2D, Zelda-esque adventure to check out? Do you think cartoony monsters are kind of cute, actually? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you’re in luck!

Created by Max Mraz, Yarntown is a top-down, 2D adventure game that has all the trappings of both Bloodborne and The Legend of Zelda in one fun package. The game recreates everything through the Father Gascoigne boss fight, and includes mechanics for both ranged and melee attacks, the lantern checkpoint/revive system, healing via blood vials, and the iconic dodge roll that all “Soulsborne” genre fans love. Seeing it in action, it’s uncanny how well the mechanics of Sony’s grotesque, Lovecraftian RPG translate into a style reminiscent of A Link to the Past, but it’s certainly a match made in heaven.
The best part? It’s available right now on itch.io for free. So if you want to check it out, head on over and get a taste of the Yarnham lifestyle.
