Rather than scouring the dangerous lands of Hyrule and slaying countless beasts to gather his resources, I’m sure Link would appreciate the option to simply pump some coins into a vending machine for a change.
Illustrator and animator @SeerLights has just the thing for an adventurer seeking a more convenient way to amass essential supplies.
This animated vending machine is presented as the centerpiece in the title screen of a mocked-up “new Zelda game,” with a typical main menu selection of “Continue,” “New Game,” and “Options” hovering to the side. Rather than pursuing Ganon, I’m assuming Link is looking for some change in order to complete his quest this time.
The machine contains bottled Fairies, a Heart Container, a Green Rupee, an assortment of potions, and most strikingly of all, the Triforce itself! Each item has a unique and mesmerizing animation, with the heart and rupee spinning, the fairies flapping and the potions bubbling. Meanwhile, other details such as a Zelda-style heart meter, a scrolling text sign, and swaying plantlife mean there is a surprising amount to look at in this seemingly simple video.
There is a wonderfully calming tone to this piece, with lots of cool shades of blue. Outside of the machine, a crescent moon, a starry sky, and a bright city backdrop make the scene all the more tranquil, and a music cover of the “Fairy Fountain” theme by Mikel completes the pure serenity of this animation.
It’s such a cool and original concept, and such an inventive way to celebrate the iconic items of the Zelda games. Anyone got a quarter?
