It’s no secret that people are beyond stressed right now in the current situation. Fortunately, we’re finding creative ways to maintain good health and stay positive, and that of course includes becoming immersed into our favorite games.
A research survey from Comfy Sacks explored the statistics behind Americans playing video games, and what reactions happen when they do. The results are interesting — and surprisingly refreshing. More than 1,000 American adults voted Zelda: Breath of the Wild second place as the most stress-relieving game at the current time. Call of Duty was voted the most stressful.
There’s plenty of other interesting data that can be gleaned from the survey, too. The games rated the most stressful tended to feature online multiplayer capabilities. Some were first-person shooter titles. None of them were from Nintendo. The way players handled the stress varied, ranging from damaged controllers to even punching holes in the wall. Some players admitted to yelling at their friends and significant others. More than 70% of the respondents regretted their decisions.
The stress-relieving games obviously provided more benefits. Over 46% of the participants in the study stated they play video games almost every day to take a break from life’s harrowing problems. Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon franchises are all included on the list of stress-busters, and that may be because people reach to nostalgia for comfort. Some psychologists have reported that more immersive games like Zelda may be healthy for you. With so many beloved characters, thought-provoking puzzles, and an amazing world to explore, it’s no wonder! Breath of the Wild is clearly the perfect choice to unwind after a hard day. And it’s certainly cheaper than repairing dubious holes in the wall.
