Sometimes you come across just the right song to fit your current mood or a song you didn’t know you needed to hear until you found it. For me, it was the latter as I, a couple of months ago, was getting into another stressful week of university assignments and had the fortune of finding “Skipper’s Retreat.” As I pressed play, I was reminded to take a moment to breathe.
“Skipper’s Retreat” is a beautiful take on Skyward Sword’s “Lanayru Sand Sea” by RebeccaETripp and featuring Gamer of the Winds on flute. While the original soundtrack is already very calm and beautiful in the game, I would say that this remix has made it even more soothing, making it more meditative and even enchanting. When I play it, it almost feels like I truly am stepping into a retreat, ready to let all my worries go and just focus on breathing and listening to that beautiful flute for the next four minutes.
I’ve found myself returning to “Skipper’s Retreat” quite often and not only when I’m feeling stressed from school. I think it works just as well on a slow morning to get me in the right mood and think back to that vast ocean of nothing but golden sand. This remix is like a cool breeze you’ve been longing for on a hot summer day: It’s soft and something you want again as soon as it’s over.
If you’ve been feeling stressed or overwhelmed lately, or if you just feel a need to dream away for a moment, this is the track for you. Breathe in, hold your breath, and breathe out. Welcome to “Skipper’s Retreat.”
