Link had quickly grown fond of Romani Ranch and the people who call it home, so he is dedicated to preventing these creatures — regardless of their seemingly infinite numbers — from harassing his friends and ruining their lives. The lights, they come from all sides. It’s an eerie radiance that emits from their empty and lifeless eyes.
These beings, whom Romani only refers to as “They,” fix their gazes on the barn and the bovine prizes inside. Link is doing the best he can to fend them off, firing shot after shot with his bow, taking them down as quickly as they respawn. Romani is starting to worry, but Link is now in full hero mode. All he needs to do is keep them at bay until dawn. Is he up for the challenge?

This piece by artist glitcher is a fantastic summary of the single word that best describes this sequence in Majora’s Mask: tension. These creatures are relentless in their goal to abduct the cows, and they show little concern for anyone who might be trying to stop them. They almost don’t even seem to notice Link and Romani as the duo unleashes their flurry of arrows toward them. These creatures see the advantage as being theirs, and the lights, which are growing brighter and stronger as they close in, reflect on the sides of the barn like the orange glow of an encroaching fire — a perfect analogy of the threat their presence is.
It doesn’t matter though. Link has forgotten the situation and the opponent. His eyes and mind are fixed on the objective. They might be getting closer, but their time will run out faster than his arrows. At least, that’s what he believes. Can Link meet the dawn as a victor, as he so confidently believes he will? I guess you’ll need to read tomorrow’s article to know for sure.
