Yuga’s Art Gallery: Twilight GameCube

Me, later this year in December: “Dear Santa. Gimme.”

I have a question for you. When the people who know me best ask what my favorite console is, what answer do you think I give? That was a trick question, because the people who know me best know me for being the guy who won’t stop praising the GameCube. That little box of joy provided countless hours of, well, joy, during my tween and teen years, and it served as the birthplace of my love for the Legend of Zelda. It was also the initial system destination for Twilight Princess, which is the first Zelda game I anticipated as a fan of the series, my second-favorite Zelda game, and my second-favorite game ever.

This custom GameCube would be worth its weight in gold to me if I owned it.

This cube is the work of Zoki64, an amazing artist and customizer who’s work I’ve covered before. The quality and presentation of his customs are among the best anyone could hope to find. The colors of this GameCube, those wonderful mixes of gold and silver with their unique and Twilight Princess-inspired patterns, are vibrant, clear, and evenly dispersed. The system shows no signs of uneven coating or fading. The quality is professional, and it is protected by a clear coat that protects the paint and adds a hypnotic luster.

The colors are enthralling, but even they take on a supporting role for this masterpiece’s centerpiece: the classic official artwork of Link and Wolf Link. It sits in the middle of GameCube, like a diamond set in an engagement ring. The system was beautiful without it, but now it’s Twilight Princess-levels of beautiful.

And there’s a controller bundled with this childhood dream. The colors and patterns match the system with the level of precision that Zoki always delivers. The only difference is that he chose to brand the controller with the Hylian Crest instead of the artwork. It was a great decision, as it allows both parts of this combo to work as a pair while also being unique products.

I want to say more about this, I truly do, but there’s nothing more I can add that the piece cannot say for itself. Zoki’s mastery of his craft has done my beloved GameCube and Twilight Princess a beautiful justice.
