Yuga’s Art Gallery: Divine sculptures

Divine Beasts sculptures by GizmoForge

Although the general consensus about Breath of the Wild’s Divine Beasts is that they were unsatisfying Zelda dungeons, no one can deny that their designs are awe-inspiring and leave lasting presences in the world of Hyrule. When I saw the incredible sculptures that GizmoForge makes and sells of the four Divine Beasts on their Etsy store, it instantly renewed my appreciation for their intricate and unique designs. If I had enough disposable rupees in my wallet, I would have bought them all on the spot.

I want so badly to display these beautiful sculptures on a mantelpiece; they look like ornaments right out of an antique store. They also look so invitingly tactile to touch and weighty to hold! What’s even more breathtaking is if you look closely at each of the figures from head to toe, you can see that they have creative patterns, clean indentations, and precise depressions that emulate the imagined craftsmanship of the ancient Shiekahs that built the Divine Beasts. A closer inspection does reveal some small creative tweaks in their designs, suggesting that GizmoForge took some creative liberties to 3D print them. Regardless, they are all little masterpieces.

Divine Beast Vah Naboris Sculpture

Vah Naboris is my favorite of all the Divine Beasts (I’m not biased towards Gerudo, nope not at all) and I just adore this sculpture of it. I love all the little windows in its thighs and back humps, as well as that proud-looking head. Its cute, stumpy legs remind me of that brilliant battle with it in the Gerudo Desert, where it’s electrifying legs were a lot more terrifying.

Divine Beast Vah Rudania Sculpture

I’ve always thought lizards are super cool creatures (although I realise that people tend to enjoy things that sound like their own names). So, when I first saw Vah Rudania crawling across Death Mountain, I felt fully intimidated yet fascinated by it. It’s the only Divine Beast you can properly see moving its limbs around like it does, aside from when you fight them. It’s so enthralling to watch. GizmoForge has recreated its limbs and spiny back perfectly in their figure, as well as its cute pointy head. It doesn’t open terrifyingly as it does in the game, though.

Divine Beast Vah Ruta Sculpture

Although I prefer the other three Divine Beasts over Vah Ruta, I still love its design and the co-op fight with Sidon that it always reminds me of. I have a friend who absolutely loves elephants and — though she knows nothing about Zelda — I think even she would find this sculpture of Vah Ruta as adorable and amazing as I do. Its trunk and face are absolutely spot on. All the details on the rest of its body, like the bridge at the drop, is also amazing and intriguing to look at.

Divine Beast Vah Medoh Sculpture

While Vah Naboris may be my favorite overall, I will never forget my fascination with finding the Divine Beast Vah Medoh in Breath of the Wild. From the very moment I set foot out of the Shrine of Resurrection, I spotted Vah Medoh flying high in the horizon, but didn’t have a clue what it was. I stared with childlike wonder thinking what it could be — a floating island, like in Twilight Princess maybe? When I realized it was a giant bird, I admired its intricate design and graceful movement for a long time in the sky above me through my Sheikah Slate, and eventually with my own eyes once I stood mere feet below it. Equally, I love GizmoForge’s recreation, especially the loop at the top. They’ve no doubt included this so we can hang it up let it fly just as spectacularly as in the game.

So, which of the Divine Beast Sculptures do you like best? I’m lining up all four on my TV stand once I get the money to buy them!
