Now, it’s no secret that the Tower of the Gods is one of my all–time favorite Zelda dungeons, and one of the things that makes it so epic to me is the music that plays inside the structure. It’s grand enough as is, giving the overtone of a great challenge of wit and strength, but Z.R.E.O. managed to bump it up a notch and create their own take on the tower’s theme.
Immediately from the introduction, we are greeted with crashing cymbals and a grand choir, welcoming us into the grandiose tower. The way all the drums, strings, choir, and organ are used in this soundtrack emphasizes the importance of this challenge and the tension in the air. They make it seem as though every minor choice of Link’s will make all the difference — which you’ll know is true if you’ve played through the dungeon.
The Tower of the Gods is an important point in Link’s journey as it proves his skills and his courage, and thus is accompanied by this melody that illustrates just that. While the original composition for the game is wonderful on its own, I truly believe the team behind Z.R.E.O. amplified the emotion of this track with the more dominant instruments and passion that they put into this piece.
