Yuga’s Art Gallery: Wingieees

I suppose my article about Quill made it hard for me to avoid sharing this. “Wingieees” by artist jelloire is a fun, stylized portrait inspired by my favorite Rito postman, so my appreciation for it should be expected.

As mentioned, it is a modest portrait of Quill and is a good representation of him. He’s not in some intense, action-filled situation that he would never find himself in, or some other unlikely scenario. He is merely flying toward a destination while wearing a focused look on his face. Quill is probably en-route to his next delivery and is determined to finish his task.

I can almost piece together a narrative for this art, based on its style. This portrait could be what someone living on the Great Sea might have observed on a regular basis: The Ritos, flying from one island to another, never allowing their deliveries to be late. Perhaps Carlov, the Nintendo Gallery operator, watched Quill from afar and created this from memory to serve as a reference for one of his sculptures. Or maybe young Aryll is a secret art prodigy and drew this while resting in her lookout.

I enjoy how “messy” parts of this image look. In her description of the piece, jelloire says: “anyway this is a mess of acrylics, glitter pens and watercolors on a paper that is not in the slightest suited for watercolors. Enjoy.”

This rough mixture of materials does wonders. There’s a certain hastiness to it, but I like that because it actually fits with my proposed narratives. When you try to make note of something that will quickly disappear, you work with what you have.

I love the Rito, both in terms of their visual designs and character attributes. They are majestic and earnest beings. I always appreciate when other people appreciate them, which is why I am a fan of what jelloire has made. She captured what I love about the race in one shot.
