New Japanese sales data for hardware and software from April 22 to April 28 has been published by Famitsu which shows that Nintendo Switch lifetime sales are poised to surpass lifetime PlayStation 4 sales in the region.

With nearly 42,108 Switch units sold between the dates mentioned above, the system is nearing an estimated 8,042,166 lifetime sales. Comparatively, the PlayStation 4 — including combined sales from the base model, slim redesign, and PlayStation 4 Pro models — has cleared an estimated 8,047,754 units — meaning the Nintendo Switch is only trailing by around 5,500 sales.

Based on industry trends, the Nintendo Switch is expected to surpass lifetime sales of the PlayStation 4 by the next data period, which should be published shortly. You can see the complete hardware sales comparison data below for the April 22 period.

1) Switch – 42,108 (40,388)
2) PlayStation 4 – 8,786 (6,702)
3) PlayStation 4 Pro – 5,381 (4,661)
4) New 2DS LL – 3,927 (2,600)
5) New 3DS – 653 (632)
6) PlayStation Vita – 536 (571)
7) Xbox One X – 103 (44)
8) Xbox One S – 52 (39)

It may be surprising to see the Switch selling so well both overseas and in countries around the world, but with its already incredible library — and with massive titles like Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Link’s Awakening on the horizon — the future is brighter than ever for the hybrid console.
