After extreme backlash for the foggy details provided for their cloud saves, Nintendo has finally issued a statement to IGN that clarifies some Nintendo Switch Online details on whether or not cloud saves could be recovered.
According to a Nintendo spokesperson, if your Nintendo Switch Online subscription expires, you will be able to re-subscribe within 180 days or six months in order to recover previous cloud saves. It is important to note that you will not be able to regain your downloads while the subscription has lapsed; you must re-subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online in order to salvage them.
It is good to see that Nintendo has listened to feedback and allow cloud saves to stay on their servers for six months. This is plenty of time for even the biggest of procrastinators like myself to re-up their Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Plus, do you really want to chance losing your Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey saves?
You can purchase Nintendo Switch Online, which includes cloud saves, NES games, and online play for $19.99 for a year.
