Breath of the Wild has to be one of my favorite Zelda games that I’ve ever had the enormous pleasure to play. This is not only due to the wonderful graphics, beautiful storytelling, and a world full of endless possibilities and exploring, but also because of the person I was able to share these wonderful experiences with.
I never knew that who you play with could have such an impact on the way you feel about a game, or how added butterflies could multiply the excitement you got when picking up that controller.
Now, imagine this: You’ve always wanted to play Breath of the Wild, yet you’ve never had the opportunity to do so. Suddenly, you’re over your friend’s apartment when he slowly takes out his Switch, a playful look in his eyes. You sit down on the couch, and you become immersed in the story while joking around with your friend the whole entire time. Abruptly, you realize how happy you are not only playing video games with that certain someone, but how thrilled you are to just spend time with him. Feelings begin to develop, even when you’ve made sure to keep your guard up.
All of a sudden, I felt a wild encounter appear. Not just during the gameplay, but in my heart as well. Our bond has been strengthened and tested over the years, and I started to let myself feel the love I felt for him instead of bottling it all up. As we played through each shrine and progressed further into the story, I started to notice that we were becoming closer.
Breath of the Wild will always reside in a special part of my heart because it motivated me to open my heart and mind to a happy relationship with someone who means the world to me. The hours that we spent exploring a new world helped me, and continue to help me, through some of my most difficult times. Playing Breath of the Wild will always ignite a certain happiness within me; a happiness that goes beyond just the game itself.
