Last weekend, San Diego Comic-Con saw a surplus of superhero movie trailers and news that delighted fans. In all the excitement, however, you may have missed the potential for a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate demo and DLC.
In an interview with IGN, Bill Trinen gave an insightful answer when asked about the possibility of an online test, something similar to ARMS or Splatoon. “Very good question. Right now, they’re focused very much on getting the game ready.
“We have a few other things to talk about down the road between now and when it launches in December. We’ll hopefully have some news on that as we get closer to launch.”
When asked about the potential for additional DLC for the newest installment, Trinen’s statement was a little less enlightening. “Obviously that was a big part of the Wii U game, but part of Mr. Sakurai’s approach is really focusing on getting the game done, and then once he has the game done, he’ll start to make some decisions about what he want to do. …with other characters or DLC, things like that.
“Whether or not he decides to do DLC again, or whether or not he decides this is the ultimate edition and there’s nothing more I can fit in there. We’ll have to see as we get closer to launch.”

While his response was something we’ve come to expect from Nintendo, it was still encouraging to hear that DLC wasn’t completely off the table. It would seem that Mr. Sakurai and his team are focused on creating the best possible game experience before they entertain the idea of introducing new characters or stages, but only time will tell.
You can look forward to playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on December 7, 2018.
