When Nintendo Labo was first shown off back in January, people met the announcement with confused curiosity. Well, either that or complaints on social media about how a product aimed at children wasn’t what they wanted. Internet trolls aside, it was a very out-of-left-field preview of what was to come: A cardboard-folding future of wonder.
There was a subset of the video game community that had some insane thoughts of what could be achieved with Labo. I, among many other musicians, saw the cardboard piano and immediately thought to myself “I should pick this up and write some songs with it!” That is, of course, completely crazy, but people were bound to follow through on this idea eventually.
IGN recently posted a video showing Ramin Djawadi, the composer for Game Of Thrones, playing the show’s iconic theme on the Labo piano. The Labo itself provides a backing track, while Ramin uses the piano keys to play the lead sections of the song. You can see this video in the tweet below.

This video only fuels my desire to buy a Labo to record myself playing obscure themes from movies and video games. An attempt at Seinfeld could be funny if you can program a nice slap bass backing track, or maybe something from a little series called The Legend of Zelda?
What are your thoughts on this video? Are you excited to see what other musical masterpieces people can create on this little cardboard instrument?
