Satoru Iwata, the late President of Nintendo, is someone who has meant a lot to many of us. He is an inspiration to not only to fans, but to those close to him as well. It is no surprise, then, that one of Nintendo’s beloved series would feature an NPC that shares his likeness. A few months ago, I decided to test out a method that Reddit user BOOXMOWO came up with to move NPCs that were previously thought “impossible” to budge — Iwata’s NPC being one of them.
Although they got as far as Hyrule Castle, BOOXMOWO and his comrade Paya returned home after being blocked off by a puddle and an unfortunate encounter with some malice. Originally, I chose a different destination, but as a “practice run” I wanted to see if I could surpass that original Paya journey.
Over the next 38 hours (with a few naps and showers thrown in between), I gained a new appreciation for Breath of the Wild. We had many ups and downs, made friends with a treasure chest and slab of metal, ran away from some Guardians, and fought off no less than three Lynels.
Anything could despawn Iwata, and that made it one of the most stressful, and best times I’ve had playing Zelda.
A month back, when I started putting together this video, it started as a simple montage of clips. The more I worked on it, however, the less I wanted to take out the journey that led up to this previously “insurmountable” destination. What was at first a few minutes, is now the length of a short film — So, please, relax, pull up a chair, and experience an adventure across Hyrule from slightly different way. Please, enjoy! (Spoiler warning for end-game content!)
