Nintendo’s official release of its 2016 financial year earnings has verified the company’s record-breaking sales numbers earlier reported. Per usual the report is full of info, but here are some interesting numbers:
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold 2.76 million units on Switch worldwide
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s Switch and Wii U sales worldwide sits at 3.84 million total units
- Switch sold 2.74 million units
- Switch software sold a collective 5.46 million units
As you can see, the amount of Switch’s and Switch version of Breath of the Wild is almost identical. This proves the influence that Breath of the Wild had on the sales for the console. Had this game only come out for the Wii U, the Switch could not have fared as well.
And if you didn’t get your hands on a Switch on release day, fret not. Nintendo is hoping to sell 10 million Switch units from April 2017 to March 2018. No doubt Nintendo intends to increase production of the console — especially with ARMS, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, and other surprises hitting by the holidays. So keep an eye out at your local retailer.
