It is with our utmost regret and sorrow that we inform you that Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata, has passed away at age 55. The cause of his death was due to a bile duct growth. He had already missed attending E3 in 2014 due to his poor health, and had already attended surgery in order to remove the bile duct growth.

Iwata started his legacy in the gaming industry when he joined HAL Laboratory straight out of college, and became president of the company in 1993. He later joined Nintendo in 2000 and subsequently became president in 2002.

Although Mr. Iwata may no longer be with us, he left a tremendously great legacy with his contributions to Nintendo and the gaming industry in general. He will always be remembered through his games and projects like Iwata Asks and Nintendo Direct.

Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata.

Iwata, even now, continues to be an inspiration to us. His work, as well as the others from Nintendo are the main reason why I’m so passionate about gaming, Nintendo gaming and wanting to become a game developer. Even as a programmer his work and efficiency was something to strive towards.

Terribly sad to see this man go, much earlier than I expected but I as well as many others won’t forget him any time soon. As long as you have access to a Nintendo game Iwata is there playing with you.

Iwata will be missed, this is the same man who voluntarily halved his
own salary to help alleviate financial burdens at Nintendo. He was a
great man, and like Yamauchi before him, we’ll never forget him or what
    he did for the industry…

I will pray to God that He lets the wonderful man into his kingdom, even if he wasn’t a Christian.

+Blockio1999 Thanks. I prayed, even pleaded, even begged to God last night He would let him in.
This morning, I woke up with a feeling of calmness, acceptance of his death, happiness, and peace.
It may have just been because I went to bed earlier than usual, but I have a feeling my prayer had been answered.
God bless Satoru Iwata and you all. :)

He had his successes and failures, but his success outweighed his failures. He was a good CEO, but it’s time for a change of direction at Nintendo. His passing is sad, and his family and the company have my condolences. But, this is a chance for change at Nintendo, let’s hope the next president pushes Nintendo to be on top again, like it should be.
