Some of you might have heard that Nintendo released a surprise demo in the Japanese eShop for Super Smash Bros. 3DS, which gives the Japanese folks the opportunity to test out five characters.

You might think, “How unfair is that?!”, but do not worry! Japan aren’t the only ones who get this demo. During Nintendo’s Treehouse Twitch stream, they announced that the demo is coming to Europe and America too.

In Europe, Nintendo sent out an email to random Club Nintendo members that includes a total of four download codes for the demo that you are free to give away to friends (or enemies!), even if they are not Club Nintendo members, so they can download and enjoy the game together with you. In America, the demo codes were given to Club Nintendo members who achieved the Platinum status between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014. They are required to have registered a Nintendo 3DS hardware or software and enabled to receive emails from Club Nintendo.

If you are one of the lucky ones who got their hands on the Club Nintendo demo, you are able to use it instantly, no need to wait. You’ve got unlimited uses too! Keep in mind that you have to activate this code before September 19.

Like the Japanese version, the demo covers five characters: Mario, Link, Pikachu, Mega Man and the Villager from Animal Crossing, each of them having four alternate costumes. Link, Mario and Mega Man come with an alternative colour palate, while the Villager as well as Pikachu have slightly different sprites.

Together with your friends, you can rampage through the Battlefield stage and see who is the strongest Super Smash Bros. player.

Nintendo won’t limit the demo to email distribution only. From September 19 on, the demo will be available in the eShop. It’s the same as the Club Nintendo demo when it comes to content and features. However, it has a limited amount of uses. You may only start the demo from the home menu 30 times in total.

If you want to test Super Smash Bros. 3DS but don’t have a 3DS, don’t fret. Selected retail locations will set up in-store kiosks where you will be able to play Super Smash Bros. 3DS.
