Hey, you found the mouseover! I'm David, and I'm glad to be a part of the Zelda Universe team!

Hello fellow Zelda Universe-ers! My name is David, and I am the newest member of the Zelda Universe team! (My image is taking up a lot of space so I’m going to transition into the main article now. Hit the jump below!)

I’m currently unknown on the forums as ralphpotato, but I hope for that to change as I become more active contributing to the forum section of Zelda Universe. I’ve been reading the news for quite some time now, and am very glad to be able to write it! Cue Zelda story: (huzzah!)

I remember hearing about the game Ocarina of Time from my friend, who was already a huge fan. At the time, I was relatively video game naive, and did not even begin to understand the awesome might of the Zelda series that I was about to become aware of. And that’s exactly what happened when he showed me Ocarina of Time gameplay, it didn’t impress me, but the images stuck in my head.

In April of 2010 I had to undergo my second major surgery for thyroid cancer which was pretty much the opposite of fun and the only thing I had to entertain myself in the hospital was my laptop. I remember watching a Donkey Kong arcade video, and then scouring the internet looking for a playable versions. I almost gave up until the internet presented me with the NES emulator. Within seconds I had it running on my laptop and playing Donkey Kong, and I was perhaps the happiest kid in the hospital.

I became curious of other games that were available on this strange Nintendo Entertainment System (told you I was naive). While browsing a list of games, I came across The Legend of Zelda, and an intense memory struck me. (Flashback, in case you forgot:)

“And that’s exactly what happened when he showed me Ocarina of Time gameplay, it didn’t impress me, but the images stuck in my head.”

Soon after I saw that, I was playing my first Zelda game, and I was hooked. I ended up beating the game in the hospital (with a little help, again from the internet) and thus began my love of the Zelda franchise. To this day, the original Legend of Zelda remains my favorite Zelda game.

So ya, it’s not the greatest Zelda story, but I choose not to worry about that. In the past two years, I’ve bought an NES, SNES, N64, and GCN so that I could experience the games in their original glory. I’ve been working my way through all of them, and I’ve loved every single one (yes, Zelda II as well. In fact, it’s one of my favorites). Just as Mallory wrote in her introductory post, it has also been my goal to collect all of the Zelda games. I do have all of them now on their original consoles, except for the CD-i games. (Maybe someday.)

So, it’s a little more than two years since I was introduced to the Zelda series, and man is it great to be a part of the community. (That’s you guys. All of you. And other websites too. And everyone else that plays Zelda. They’re all cool.) Again, I’m glad to have the opportunity of writing the news for one of the greatest Zelda fan websites!

I believe that is all I have to say for now. If you have any questions or comments or general textual tomfoolery for me, please leave them down in the comments. Alternatively, you can drop me a VM (I need VMs, my profile is oh so very blank and lonely) or a PM at my profile. I will see you around the forums, and look forward to my future news posts! Happy adventuring; safe travels!

Oh, I should also thank Bastian. He’s that really cool guy that hired me and does the Zelda News on ZeldaUniverseTV.
