Majora’s Mask was always known for having unique cutscenes, but it turns out that there’s even more available than we thought.  Someone managed to discover two cutscenes from Majora’s Mask that never made it into the final game.  While they’re a bit unpolished, it’s interesting to see what the developers originally had intended to put into the finished product that we were never expected to see.  Hit the jump to see two short videos containing some strange interactions between Link and the Great Fairy.

Apparently the Great Fairy had devised a rigorous workout program for Link in order to help him hone his skills.   Regardless of how strange the scenes may seem, the animations involving Link doing push-ups and sit-ups are pretty good for the Nintendo 64 days.  What do you think? Should these have made it into the final game?

What's she doing touching Link like that?

  • I think they would have if given more time to work on it. Nintendo definitely had to push out MM pretty quick to avoid being a last gen game on launch.

  • TTL

Actually, I really would have liked to see this in the final cut. They give a bit more character to the Great Fairy than we ever got and would have done a great deal to change the current opinion of the character as being "weird".

Yeah, she's weird. That's definitely a con in Zelda. Right.

I think the one of her showing Link how to do the spin attack and him getting dizzy and falling is cool. I think its a little odd for Link to be working out though, haha, as opposed to getting a magical gift.

  • Linkmastersword

The thumbnail of the second video gave me.. Wrong thoughts.

  • Ashmic

    rape O.o

Wait, in the original version of the game, the Great Fairy trained you to become Fierce Deity Link? So… you could just go around Clocktown as the ultimate manifestation of Link's inner darkness and kill helpless gibdos and redeads like they were nothing? and it was cut out?

This is a cruel, cruel world :'(

    • MC HMS

There was a post on this in the forums. I think that the Fierce Diety transformation was a glitch.

  • What…the crap?

  • Prince

I think Zeth Alkar discovered these. Should give him credit.

    • The person you listed uploaded a compilation video of Majora's Mask unused cutscenes on YouTube on August 9, 2011 (as YouTube user ZethN64). However, the source which I have credited in the above post uploaded the videos found above on August 5, 2011.

Doctor You is correct: we credit the actual YouTube user who posted the videos. And it would seem that they posted the videos sooner than the other individual you mentioned.

  • Wow! That's cool that we're finding out new things about a game that's been out for some time! 😀

  • pololmejor

This would've been awsome to see on the real game. Why the hell didn't it get through? It's humorus and I'm allways proud to see Link making facial expresions and different animations

So can anybody translate what the text said so we have a better undetstanding of it?

    • RomulusRox

Here's what it says in the second video. It's nothing too special, just instructions. Hope it helps either way! ^_^

      Do as I say.
Press and hold the B button.
      Release the B button!
      Now try it for yourself!

    • RomulusRox

The first video's text was a bit harder for me but it roughly translates as "enemies only do half the damage they normally do because of your increased strength."

    • Dreamer

The first video says at the end: “Your defense power has increased, now you will receive only half of the damage”

Second vid starts saying : “you will do as I say” “Press B and after concentrating energy…” “Release B !!” “now try it your self”

No WAY would I work out with that woman staring at me!
She is THE SCARIEST FREAKING LADY I've ever seen in a video game.
I mean, like, if we forget Bayonetta or something.
She wears a semi-transparent leotard of DEATH!

    • that guy

she's not wearing a "semi-transparent leotard of DEATH"… there vines lol

  • TheMaverickk

It seems to me that they were going to be animations to match each of the great fairies gifts.

For example teaching Link magic would have a scene where he is being shown how to do a proper sword spin attack by the Great Fairy.

Similarly I would think that the "work out regime" scene would be the animation that plays when Link doubles his vitality (the heart meter damage is halved). Suggesting that by following the Great Fairie training he gets strong enough to take more damage.

Who knows maybe with more time they would've had animations for Link getting double his magic power, and an animation for getting the Great Fairy Sword.

EEEWWWWW!!!! SHE TOUCHED HIM!!!!!!! AND BENT HIM OVER WHILE STANDING RIGHT BEHIND HIM!!!! as if that fairy wasn't creepy enough already!!

  • Gerudude

I wish I could read Japanese.

  • WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Craig

Someone needs to debug Skyward Sword to see if there are any hidden cutscenes we didn't see or textures.

  • Black Knight

there's no easy way out. There's no short cut home.

  • Rena

Do the developers still keep the debug menus in the final"s of wii games?

  • I think this would have worked better with Impa training Link, as a flashback , like the one with Zelda teaching him the Song of Time. Since there's no Impa graphics on Majora's Mask, maybe they replaced it with the Great Fairy. Also, Link can do the Spin Attack without magic, so I don't see why he would be trained by the Great Fairy for that…

  • Richard

wish these made it to the final game 🙂
