10 must-have items to survive a hostile takeover by Ganondorf

by on May 9, 2023

The Upheaval is coming! Are you ready? The last line of defense will be Link. While the Master Sword can only be wielded by the true Hero, this doesn’t mean the rest of Hyrule’s citizens are left destitute against the King of Evil. Wise Hyruleans can still utilize many things to defend their homes and the ones they love. Desperate times call for desperate measures. It’s dangerous to go alone, but these items in tow can help even the most average person outlast the next Cataclysm’s Eve. Now, to arms!

10. Rubber Suit

A smart warrior knows it is imperative to properly suit up before the heat of a fight. This Rubber Suit might not be the most glorious thing on the block to gallop into the battle of a lifetime, but it will undoubtedly deflect any sort of electrical energy attacks Ganondorf and his forces may throw at the wearer. It’s certainly more protective and practical than a costly suit of metal armor. Survival wins over fashion, right?

9. Big Weapons

When it comes to warring against Ganon’s forces, the tactic that typically works to win is to go big or go home. If a sacred weapon is not available, the best hopes for a Hyrulean is to choose a weapon that can serve major damage output. Don’t be afraid to pull out the biggest, heaviest weapons possible. When the time to fight comes, make the commitment to hit the enemy hard and fast. A ball and chain or Megaton Hammer is not a shabby choice at all. Sturdy armor for extra protection is a wise additional option. Good luck out there, solider.

8. A Monster Mask

Not the confrontational type of person? No problem. A monster mask allows even the meekest Hyrulean citizen to safely blend in with a crowd of Bokoblins, Moblins, or even Gibdos. Although it’s not tested, Hyruleans may be able to reach a new clientele demographic for their business. Disclaimer: use at your own risk. May frighten other Hyruleans. It is unknown whether or not monsters are able to comprehend transactions or read contracts. A Lynel Mask is only effective for horseback riders, as a four-hoofed Lynel won’t be fooled by a two-legged creature that easily.

7. Big Swords

While it’s true that the Blade of Evil’s Bane is the only known weapon that can smite Ganondorf, other swords can still give him and his cohorts a good smacking when push comes to shove. Big two-handed swords seem to be particularly effective in this case. Close combat is obviously not ideal for the average Hyrulean, but a skilled sword user could still have a fighting chance with powerful blades like the Biggoron’s Sword and Royal Claymore in an emergency situation.

6. Grandma’s Soup

Few things provide as much comfort and nourishment as Grandma’s cooking, especially when a catastrophe is imminent. For the young Hero of Winds, it was an invaluable meal that would turn the tide in his favor. Not only did Grandma’s Elixir Soup fill his belly, it doubled his attack power against any enemy at his disposal. The empty bottle would also work as an effective deflector against oncoming magical attacks. Hmm, maybe the little guy was onto something.

5. Anything with Fire

What would you do if the King of Evil gets in your face and there’s no Hero in sight? Grab the closest source of fire and/or a flammable object. Whether it be matches, a spare lighter, a pet dragon, or a campfire, it doesn’t matter, just get it in hand and fire away. No, it’s not going to kill Ganondorf, of course. It will probably do little more than singe his clothes and make him angry. But the sheer power of flames will undoubtedly buy a victim enough time to save their hide, and that moment is everything.

4. Fishing Rod

Don’t have a lick of fire anywhere? Try distracting Ganondorf with the strangest tactic of all: waving a fishing rod in front of him. He will promptly turn his attention to the rod and provide you the opportunity to escape. The distraction is especially effective when a piece of shiny jewelry is attached to the line. No one knows why this works, but eye witnesses say the Gerudo King has a particular fondness for gold and fine jewelry. Others claim he’s so passionate about fishing, he could have been a fisherman in another life.

3. Deku Nuts

These elusive round nuts once used by the Hero of Time himself are rare these days, but their bright explosive flashes are incredibly useful in a host of situations. There’s a small chance they could be found in forests with Deku Trees. Legends among the townsfolk say these nuts could easily provide a distraction for the user to escape their enemies. Some even think that the Hero of Time used Deku Nuts to help defeat the fearsome beast Ganon himself! Such nuts would no doubt be useful in a hostile takeover scenario Alternatively, they could also help a poor Hyrulean flee from their ex boyfriend or girlfriend. Food for thought.

2. A Flock of Cuccos

It’s clear Hyrulean Cucco farmers have the best advantage in town if a hostile takeover situation develops. The feathered creatures are so fearsome, not even Ganon’s forces stand a chance to their wrath. It’s a wise idea for those who are not Cucco farmers to start befriending one long before disaster strikes. The Cuccos will not only provide protection and company, their eggs are an excellent source of food in case supplies get scarce.

1. Silver Arrows

Let’s be honest, it’s much easier for the average Hyrulean citizen to harness a silver arrow tip than one that’s literally made from rays of light. Thanks to what we know from the original Legend of Zelda adventure, Silver Arrows are just as effective against Ganon and his horde of minions as their shinier cousins. Best of all, silver is a materials that is much more accessible to the average Joe (after all, not everyone is the Princess of Destiny). Try to stockpile this precious metal now to have an invaluable stash of self-defense ahead of time.
