Clock Town, the main hub of Majora’s Mask, has been recreated in Unreal Engine 5 by a talented fan. Benoit Bourgerie has spent over a year working on it. Not only has he made Clock Town from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5, he included Termina Field as well. To pull this off, Bourgerie used the nanite system to ensure the model count stays high with no frame-rate problems. Lumen gives the streets of Clock Town real-time shifting shadows so that it appears Link just stepped into the sunlight. Thanks to William Faucher’s easy mapper plugin, the terrain has realistic dips and ridges. These tools have allowed Bourgerie to fully focus on making the Terminian atmosphere as accurate as possible.
While some creators take pride in making their work realistic, the same can’t be said for Bourgerie. Instead of making Clock Town more photo realistic, he decided to remain faithful to the original beauty of Majora’s Mask. Another creator, DSOGaming has praised the work of Bourgerie and how it retains the beauty of the game. “…This fan remake has managed to retain the cartoon-ish style of Majora’s Mask. The hues feel softer, the silhouettes familiar,” says DSO Gaming. “But when the moon looms, when the shadows stretch, you feel Majora’s dread again. This time enhanced but not changed.”
This project was created for Bourgerie’s personal portfolio, a work of art made entirely for experience. Due to this, there isn’t an option to download it to play for yourself. You can, however, still watch it here:
