On the Dawn of the Second Day, dark grey clouds gather over the ignorant villagers of Clock Town. Rain falls heavy accompanied by booming thunder interrupting the quickened festive music of the day. The weather speaks of the tensions rising and urges all to stop ignoring the doom upon them. However, amongst it all, a little Deku Scrub keeps their head high, dancing across the puddles despite the sorrow in their heart and the fear of what is to come.
To some, rain, thunder, and a falling moon would be enough to cause panic, and make them spend every second working towards preventing the end of the world, or run far enough in hopes to avoid it all together. Artist Lunaros, however, loved the atmosphere of the pouring rain over Clock Town. As Deku Link, they would spin around in the rain and hop across the water in the Laundry Pool enjoying the change in atmosphere. Their artwork, titled “Raindrops, Puddles and Doleful Scrubs”, combines the playfulness of splashing into puddles with the sorrow and despair of Link’s curse and ticking town’s dying days.
Lunaros’s chosen color palette is muted and dull, almost as if all color had been washed away by the rain dashing across the page. Our eyes are drawn to two spots of bright color sitting side by side upon Deku Link’s face. His slanted eyes capture his cursed sorrow, frozen in place even if he does find joy in jumping through the puddles around him. His gaze draws a line to the glowing fairy Tatl; a beacon of light guiding Link through his journey. Her glow in turn reflects into the water as if leading the Deku Scrub’s footsteps through the puddles, and showing that even in the darkness, there can still be a little bit of light.
When the world feels sorrowful, when the skies turn grey and thunder booms, when it feels like the weight of the moon is crushing everything below, find joy in the puddles that splash underneath your feet until that sun shines again.
