November 2013 saw the rise of a new kingdom in The Legend of Zelda series and, with it, a new princess, both familiar and different. A Link Between Worlds crossed between light and dark showing for every life in the world of light, there was a darker opposite living in the world of shadows. While our new princess may look like the Princess Zelda we’ve come to know and love, her shift in colours alone show that she is something darker and mysterious and would go to many lengths to protect her kingdom, even if it meant destroying the light.
Princess Hilda of the kingdom of Lorule has a gorgeous design. While similar to the design of Princess Zelda in the same game, Princess Hilda’s design has slight differences that reflect her personality. What better way to celebrate her design then through the gorgeous cosplay created by Li Kovacs. In 2014 during a Nintendo Minute segment, Li Kovacs unveiled her latest Legend of Zelda cosplay, a gorgeous rendition of Princess Hilda in all her purple glory. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Minute segment is no longer available to view, but fortunately for us, Li Kovacs has uploaded photos of her own and a video to show off her fabulous work.

Li Kovacs is known for her many Nintendo inspired cosplay creations from the various Legend of Zelda characters, Super Mario characters and even a cosplay from Arms and many, many more. Her sewing and crafting skills caught the attention of many, leading to her being invited to be a guest on a Nintendo Minute video to exclusively reveal her Princess Hilda cosplay. While she teased for many months of the progress and being unable to share full details, the wait was worth it.

Creating Princess Hilda’s costume can not have been an easy task. There are many little elements that come together to craft the final look. There’s the dress crafted with patterns and embroidered with elements and held in shape by layers of petticoats, a cape that flows behind with grace, and a belt that needs to be made and cast along with golden earrings and a glittering crown. Not to mention a wig that needs styling, contacts that need placing and a makeup look to really seal the look together. Last but not least, Princess Hilda would not be complete without her inverted Triforce staff. All of which Li Kovacs created in a matter of months and brought together to bring the little Princess from the Nintendo 3DS to life.

It takes more than an outfit and some makeup to really become a character. Li Kovacs not only crafts the costumes but becomes the character entirely. In her collection of photos, she holds her expression with determination, sadness and strength. She embodies the Princess who will fight for her kingdom and its people even if it means betraying a hero who could just be the very person she needs to fix everything.
