Mysterious as he is creepy, the Happy Mask Salesman isn’t known for revealing things about himself. Most information about the strange man has to be hunted down, or inferred based on the way he acts. Fortunately, for those curious to learn more about this joyful salesman, there exists an interview featuring the Happy Mask Salesman that occured on Miiverse as part of the promotion for Majora’s Mask 3D which reveals information about this sneaky salesman.
As expected, the salesman acts very mysterious, hesitant to reveal any information about himself. Though we do learn a good couple things about the development of Majora’s Mask, we don’t learn much about the Happy Mask Salesman himself. The interview itself has a great deal of information that is aboslutely worth reading if you consider yourself a fan of Majora’s Mask at all, but the Happy Mask Salesman narrowly avoids or deflects any personal questions to maintain his aura of mystery.
However, since this interview happened on Miiverse, peeking into the data for the Happy Mask Salesman’s Mii reveals his birthday: December 31st. The end of the year, an interesting birthday for the man to have. For a character so inextricably tied to a world defined by it’s inevitable doom, it’s morbidly fitting for his birthday to be a date associated with ending. There isn’t much else notable information to derive from his Mii information, unfortunately.
The Happy Mask Salesman is one of my favorite characters in the entire Zelda series, and the overall mystery surrounding his character has always enamored me. While I’m always happy to learn more about him, I’d almost rather it all stay a secret as to keep his mystique alive. By virtue of knowing so little about him, it makes knowing something as minor as a birthday feel all the more special.
