Bombers’ Notebook: Stamm the Traveling Chef

Breath of the Wild is indisputably one of the biggest open-world games in history, boasting 23.7 square miles of explorable terrain. Even with over 400 hours of playtime, I still discover new things while exploring the kingdom of Hyrule. Whenever I roam around fighting monsters and shield-surfing down hills, I often stop and think to myself: if I were Link, I’d be so hungry all the time.

On my journeys through Breath of the Wild, I found many options for Link to fill his stomach; however, there is one particular character that I think would be the perfect best friend for Link, and that would be Stamm, the traveling gourmet chef of Hyrule.

The traveling Hylian chef walks from South Akkala Stable to Tarrey Town, bragging about his fresh, top-of-the-line items. Rain or shine, he continues to travel around with his goods, as well as a soup ladle and pot lid to serve as a weapon and shield in case he encounters monsters along the way. If he’s on the road, he’ll stop and take cover during a storm, and once it dies down, he’ll continue his journey.

My first encounter with Stamm was when I was on my way to Tarrey Town. I had just finished the Hylian Homeowner quest in Hateno Village and was going straight to Akkala to search for Hudson. Stamm instantly boasts that he intends to make people say that nothing can compete with his food, and that he dreams of becoming a renowned cook in Hyrule. However, he does admit that he can come off a tad bit arrogant.

Nevertheless, his determination and confidence reminded me of how I was during my younger years: passionate and ready to take the world (or, in Stamm’s case, Hyrule Kingdom) by storm. Stamm may just be an NPCbut in his own intense and charming way, he reminded me to believe in myself and what I have to offer to the world. As long as you hold on to that, you will always have that confidence to take action and get things done.
