Tetra’s Treasures: Ocarina of Time promotional statue (E3 1997)

Before the official release of Ocarina of Time, fans who attended E3 at the Georgia Dome in 1997 were able to catch their first look at Zelda 64 gameplay footage. To further promote the game, attendees had the opportunity to purchase a special, limited-edition statue at the event. Only three hundred of these statues were ever produced, making this item one of the rarest Zelda collectibles.

The statue, sculpted by Marc Klinnert and produced by Studio Oxmox, features Adult Link with the signature Hylian Shield and Master Sword, which are removable. He comes packaged in a nice box surrounded by poly inserts to keep the parts (which are separate) in place. When fully assembled, the statue itself is sixteen inches high, hand-painted and made out of polyresin material; therefore, it appears to be quite heavy and sturdy.

Listings for the statue pop-up every now and then, with prices ranging anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000. Before writing this article, I’ve never known of this statue’s existence, but I must say I’m intrigued and enjoyed learning about its origins. Personally, I think it’s interesting to come across and read about rare Zelda merchandise produced over the years.

Since only three hundred of these statues were created, you can tell each one was created with a lot of love and care. I’ll admit, I’m jealous of whoever owns one of these statues, as it must be quite the honor!
