Yuga’s Art Gallery: A look from above

For many years, I would only think about A Link to the Past and daydream of one day getting to play it myself. I listened to the Dark World theme more than what might be considered healthy, and I wondered what would make Link transform into a pink bunny, and how. I also wondered what it would be like to retrieve the Master Sword and see Link proudly hold it in his hand and above his head, a moment I had only seen in pictures.

Luckily for me, I finally got the opportunity to play the game last year thanks to Nintendo’s Switch Online membership, and I got to experience that very moment I had looked forward to throughout those years. As always when I get to see Link hold the Master Sword for the first time, it’s an exciting, unforgettable moment and, suddenly, the game feels more serious! A Link to the Past is many fans’ favorite game in the series, and Reddit user The_Butchr is a very clever fan who captured that special moment of Link and the sword in a rather unique way: by making a diorama of it.

As I was making my way through the Lost Woods, it really felt like I was looking from above and down at Link, especially when he got on the pedestal where the Master Sword was resting. Perhaps The_Butchr felt the same way when he experienced that same moment and thought how well it would look in a diorama.

In my own bookcase, I have a small diorama displayed. It doesn’t have a Zelda motif but it’s still very pretty. However, what I like most about it was the process of puzzling the pieces together. The_Butchr stated that it took about six hours for him to create this impressive Zelda diorama, which is far longer than the time it took for me to put together the pre-cut diorama I received as a gift. But, that’s the charm of dioramas after all, to take time to sit down and see it all come together. Hopefully, the positive reception to his beautiful Zelda diorama will inspire him (and others) to make more.
