Yuga’s Art Gallery: Nighttime Softness

Cute creatures and animals may not be the first things to come to mind when gamers think of The Legend of Zelda, but that doesn’t mean that they haven’t found a place in the hearts of us fans. There were adorable Cucco chicks parading after Link in Majora’s Mask, and even Link himself turned into a cute bunny in A Link to the Past.

A more recent creature is the Blupee, a small, bunny-like forest creature that illuminates in a pale blue color in the dark. The Blupee’s stole my heart as easily as Skyward Sword’s Remlits, or perhaps even easier since these blue creatures don’t turn as aggressive as the Remlits as the sun sets. In true rabbit fashion, they’re rather shy and quickly disappear if they hear a loud noise.

If there was a checklist of all the things you need to create a cute picture, Twitter user and Etsy shop owner AmberShirelle would complete it. She has managed to capture the softness of a Blupee perfectly by making the creature look adorably cute with its fluffy chest and faint blush on its cheeks. Even the glowing lights gently floating in the air add to the soft feeling. They also add a magical touch to an already mysterious creature.

It’s very fitting that the Blupee in AmberShirelle’s picture is resting under a dark night sky as it makes the glowing antlers stand out more than they would in bright daylight. I also like that the night sky fits inside a round circle as the shape really points out how soft and gentle everything in the picture is. The Blupee would be well hidden in the grass this night if it weren’t for the antlers, and I hope for the sake of its own peace that no one will come and disturb it.

What I especially like about AmberShirelle’s picture are the Blupee’s warm eyes and cool, long eyelashes, and the perfect curve at the tip of its nose. The vibrant eye is a nice focal point and that button nose is, well, just too cute. It’s pictures like AmberShirelle’s that make me wish that some animals and creatures in Zelda games existed in real life so I would get a chance to pet them. I would be content with observing Remlits from afar, but if I were able to hold a Blupee in my arms, you’d see a wide grin on my face — and not because of the rupees they drop.
