A gaming console can cost much more over its lifetime than what’s on the retail price tag. A new study by NerdWallet, using data collected from December 2, 2020 through January 4th, 2021, found that the Nintendo Switch was the most eco-friendly gaming console of the current generation of platforms.
The study found that the Nintendo Switch had a lifetime energy cost of £101.43 and a lifetime cost of £880.05. NerdWallet took into consideration factors such as energy cost, the price of peripherals, as well as average video games bought and subscription fees when calculating the lifetime cost. The PlayStation 4 was found to have the most substantial lifetime cost, at £1,717.91. View the chart below to see the overall series of consoles surveyed.
