The deep mysteries of the Zelda franchise are many indeed. From Hyrule’s shapeshifting geography to the Triforce’s hollow center, fan theorists have bent themselves into pretzels trying to make sense of the unexplained. Some theories have gotten pretty close. Most remained shrouded in the dark — and the formidable shark that presents itself in Ocarina of Time is no stranger to them.
For those who don’t know, players can encounter the fearsome creature lurking behind bars inside the laboratory at Lake Hylia. It’s in both the original and the 3DS versions of Ocarina of Time. The bizarre sight looks more like something out of Jaws than our beloved Hyrule. How the heck did that shark get there? What on earth does it eat? Is it named Fred? Does anyone care?
Of course you do. That’s why I’m here to tell you that Hyrule Gamer has finally managed to make a splash in the murky waters. At last, fans can finally sleep at night knowing that this mystery is solved. It turns out that the underwater beast is simply a poor great white shark forced into captivity. The quirky scientist was probably just yearning for companionship in the remote lab and rescued the young shark. Or maybe he was just bored. Check out the video to see for yourself. As for me, I’m glad that Fred is okay — and he’s properly restrained from making a snack out of our unsuspecting hero.
