Here on Medli’s Melodies, all sorts of Zelda covers and remixes are featured: Lo-fi beats, jazz renditions, full orchestrations, and so much more. But it’s a rare treat to find a remix that draws all its elements directly from the sounds of the game.
That is what liltommyj has done with his “Open Your Eyes” Breath of the Wild mash-up. It’s a clever use of all kinds of tunes and voices from Zelda‘s latest entry, arranged to create a brand-new song that really works.
From using clapping NPCs and clacking shields as percussion to composing original music from snippets of the main themes, “Open your Eyes” is a wonderful jigsaw puzzle of a song, showcasing the true mastery of the sound design in Breath of the Wild. Every element used gives the remix an extra dose of character: the rattling of nearby Koroks, the humming of Bolson and Sidon, the atmospheric thunder and rushing wind, and even the formation of lyrics with tidbits of mismatched dialogue.
