124 years ago, Nintendo was founded on September 23rd, 1889. In the beginning, the company produced Hanafuda cards, a type of playing cards which originated in Japan. Today, the company is now one of the most influential, beloved and consistently innovative companies in the gaming industry.
It’s unfortunate that Hiroshi Yamauchi, former president and grandson of founder Fusajiro Yamauchi, passed away last week and won’t be around for the anniversary of the birth of what is considered many Zelda fans’ favourite company in the world. However, it’s looking better than ever to be a Nintendo fan, with the recent launch of The Wind Waker HD, and the impending releases of A Link Between Worlds and Zelda Wii U. Roll on the 125th birthday!
