Part 13: Legacy of Link

Link withdrew his sword from the corpse of the villainous Dark Heart, the blade dyed crimson from the blood that lay upon it. The sword shone brilliantly. Once the blade had fully left the chest of Dark Heart, the crystal that contained Princess Zelda shattered, releasing her.

She ran to Link and embraced him as he did to her, “I am so sorry! I should have known you were you!” Link smiled as the words came from her mouth, “It is fine, my love. What is done is done,” he said as he tried to comfort her, tears ran down her face. Link began to stroke her hair in attempt to calm her down. Her crying ceased and a long silence enter Hyrule field. A slow breeze blew past them, but they continued to embrace one another. “Let us return to town. I am sure your town’s people have been wondering why you have been sheltering your presence so long.”

They let go of one another and slowly made there way town. Link could feel his soul as one again, the Blade of Light had tranformed into a glass-like substance. He tapped the blade upon the ground; on impact it cracked and then shattered. Link was not dismayed, though the sword had served its purpose, and he had personally missed the Master Sword. Zelda and Link reached Hyrule market and the town’s people gathered around as they enter. The streets were struck with confusion as the couple made there way through the crowd. “It shall all be explained shortly!”, they exclaimed as they kept on there path to the castle.

Link was worried about Rauru; the last time Link had saw of him, he had been laying on the floor unconscious from the bolt of dark energy that Dark Link had struck him with. However, when Zelda and link reached the courtyard, a patch of clouds, dark as night had gathered over the castle. Lightning flashed through the sky, soon followed by the ravage boom of thunder. This time guards were at the gate, the knight looked up, “Prin-incess Zelda?!” Zelda smiled, “Yes, it is me. Will you do me the honor of apologizing to the other guards for my absence?” The guard seemed relieved at seeing the face of his princess once more, “Yes… Why yes I will!” he said with charisma as he stood himself upright. The guard signaled for the gate to be opened and Link and Zelda continued on the path through the court yard and to the moat. The drawbridge was down as usual, and soon after entering the castle, a sudden downpour began. “What perfect timing,” Link jested, “Indeed!” replied Zelda as they made their way through the castle.

Zelda and Link had come to the large oak doors that lead to the throne room. Link pushed open the door and held it open as Princess Zelda stepped through. Once she had entered the room, Link released the door and it shut with a lout thud. He scanned the room for Rauru. He sat on the throne, leaned over, rubbing his head. Link stepped forward, “Get back!” a strange voice demanded.

“Who’s there!?” Link asked, not recognizing the voice. He took another step; Rauru looked up. A dark aura seemed to gather around him. Link made eye contact with him. Rauru’s eyes had turned solid black. He stood up. His movement’s were much quicker than Link had ever seen.

“Ah-Ha-ha-ha!” Rauru laughed, his voice now demonically deep. Zelda walked up next to Link and whispered to him. “That is not Rauru,” Link nodded in agreement. “Who are you?” Rauru seemed to ignore the question, and then he spoke, “I knew that my defeat was inevitable, so I sedated Rauru’s mind and body during our confrontation, so that when I was defeated I could retreat to his body and use it as my vessel.”

Link was awestruck that Dark Heart was using Rauru, the sage of light’s body, as a vessel. “How is this possible?!” he demanded.

Dark Heart grinned, “Why tell you, when you can discover it on your own. I would hate to be the one to spoil all the fun,” Link went to draw his sword, then remembering the event from earlier, and the Master Sword sat on the throne next to Dark Heart. Link quickly improvised, and quick drew the Megaton Hammer and prepared to charge, “I don’t think so,” said Dark Heart as he threw a deku nut at the ground. Link covered his eyes from the flash and when he looked back, Dark Heart had vanished…
