Optional Item: Hawkeye

by on January 16, 2016

The Hawkeye is an optional item that can make your quest easier – or just more fun. After completing the Goron Mines, you can complete a short side quest to make the Hawkeye available to purchase from Malo Mart.

The Hawkeye is a scope (similar to a pair binoculars). When paired with the Bow, it allows you to zoom in and shoot with pinpoint accuracy. It can’t be combined with bomb arrows but, let’s be honest, who needs that kind of accuracy when things are exploding anyway?

How to obtain the Hawkeye

After you complete the Goron Mines, Malo and Talo’s Bow minigame becomes available. The Hawkeye is available to purchase from Malo Mart after you beat Malo and Talo’s Bow minigame. Luckily, when you complete the Goron Mines, you will warp to Kakariko Village where this minigame takes place, so you can unlock the Hawkeye right away!

Walk over to the newly-reopened bomb shop and speak to the Goron on the ground for a quick lift up to the roof. Once on the roof, take the path up to the watch tower and climb to the top of it. Talo is on the lookout; talk to him, and he’ll want to see you practice with the bow. Say “OK” to begin the minigame.

Malo and Talo’s Bow Minigame

The minigame has three challenges. In each one, you need to shoot a target with your Bow.

Target 1: An easy first target. It’s on the ground in front of you.

Target 2: The second target is above Malo Mart, and still pretty easy.

Target 3: The final target is a small pole on the outlook tower where Talo is standing. This one might take a few tries. But be careful; whatever you do, don’t shoot Talo. Nothing will happen if you do, but it’s not very nice.

Once you’ve completed the mini-game, Malo will award you a Piece of Heart. Then, as a bonus, enter his shop and the Hawkeye will become available for 100 rupees.

The Hawkeye is not required to complete the game, but having it will make some parts of the game easier. It comes in handy during the shootout at the Hidden Village, and you can use it to scope large areas for Golden Bugs.

It’s also great if you just love to admire the scenery!
