Chapter 8: Locating Jabun

by on June 30, 2020

Leave the Deku Tree’s grove and return to the King of Red Lions. Your next destination is Greatfish Isle, to the northeast.

Before you leave the island, look in the postbox to get a Piece of Heart.

You can take a direct route to Greatfish Isle, or explore some of the islands on the way and fill in your Sea Chart. Most areas of the map have several points of interest.

Greatfish Isle

Greatfish Isle has already been ravaged by Ganon when you arrive. Quill the Postman appears to tell you that Jabun, the water spirit, has taken refuge on Outset Island. He also informs you that Tetra’s pirates are on Windfall Island, looking for a way to get past Jabun’s fortifications.

Returning to Windfall Island

Head northeast to Windfall Island, where the pirate ship is anchored. Go to the Bomb Shop on the southern part of the island and look to the left of the door. There is a narrow ledge that you can sidle along. Climb up the vines behind the shop and crawl through the hole in the wall.

Pay attention to the pirates’ conversation to learn their password. There is no way to hear it again and there are several possible phrases. Common passwords include “Chummily” and “Swabbies” (note the capital letters). You need to watch this cutscene before you can progress, even if you know all the possible passwords beforehand.

The Pirate Ship

Head for the pirate ship and give the correct password. Niko will be so thrilled to see you alive that he doesn’t raise the alarm. Agree to take another of his tests in return for some Bombs.

This time there are no platforms, only ropes. The switch controls the gate at the end of the room, meaning there is still a time limit.

The third and fourth ropes don’t just sway from side to side: they drift backward and forward a considerable distance unless you are holding onto them. Timing and precision are the keys to making it across safely.

If you fall down onto the crates, it is actually possible to jump back onto the fourth rope.

Return to the King of Red Lions and set sail for Outset Island. You can shoot the Bombs from a cannon on the boat while sailing.

Returning to Outset Island

The King of Red Lions sets you down on the quay on Outset Island. You can choose to visit the islanders first, as he suggests, or you can go to find Jabun straight away.

Sail around to the back of the island until you discover a whirlpool in the shadow of Jabun’s huge stone door. Sail into the whirlpool and destroy the door before you are dragged down.

Equip the Bombs and set up the cannon as soon as the whirlpool grabs you. Aim your Bombs at the top section of the door, above the cracks. You may need to wait until you are closer in order to hit it. Two direct hits should remove this section.

With the top of the door demolished, fire your Bombs at the middle section until that collapses too.

Destroy the final piece of the door to gain access to Jabun’s cave.

By meeting with the water spirit Jabun, you will obtain Nayru’s Pearl. With all of the pearls in your possession you can unlock the next dungeon. Before you leave Outset Island, it is worth expanding your wallet’s capacity and meeting with the villagers (see Item Upgrades guide).

Three islands are now marked on your map.

Each one has a statue on it, with a space in its hands for one of the pearls. Put each pearl in its place to reveal the Tower of the Gods. Sail inside the dungeon to begin.
