The Wind Waker

Chapter 17: Triforce Shard 2: The Private Oasis

by on January 15, 2021

Note: In The Wind Waker HD, the Triforce Shard is found on the Private Oasis. In the original game, you will have to get a Triforce Chart deciphered and fish it up from the ocean floor near Gale Isle.

The cabana on the Private Oasis is out of bounds to anybody except for its owner, but it just so happens to belong to Mrs. Marie, the teacher on Windfall Island.

Find Mrs. Marie inside the schoolhouse opposite the Windmill. Talk to her to find out about her trouble with a delinquent gang of her pupils called the Killer Bees. Agree to help her with the problem.

Hide and Seek

Talk to the leader of the Killer Bees, Ivan, outside the school. Challenge them to a game of hide-and-seek. Find all of their hiding places and chase them down without going indoors, leaving the island or changing the time with the Song of Passing.

Ivan is hiding in a tree near the main gate and the docks. Roll into the tree to knock him out of it and chase him down to catch him.

Jin, wearing red, is hiding behind the Bomb Shop. You can get there in exactly the same way you did when you were looking for the Pirates: sidle along the side of the shop next to the sea.

Jan, with blue hair, is hiding behind a bush near the main gate. Look around the top of the gate, near an archway.

Jun Roberto – dressed in green – is behind the stone where Tott is dancing.

Ivan will give you a Piece of Heart for winning. Go back to Mrs. Marie and tell her what happened to get a Purple Rupee.

When you leave the school, Ivan will mention that they want to get a birthday present for Mrs. Marie. Go to the tree beside the Bomb Shop and roll into it to knock out the Joy Pendant that they’ve hidden there.

Cabana Deed

Equip the Joy Pendant and show it to Mrs. Marie. She will give you a Red Rupee as a reward. Offer Mrs. Marie a further 20 Joy Pendants to receive the Cabana Deed.

The game’s dungeons are full of Joy Pendants, so you will probably have enough by now. If you need more, find some Bokoblins and steal their pendants with the Grappling Hook. Platforms and rafts out at sea are a good place to find Bokoblins.

Private Oasis

Travel to the Private Oasis, one square northwest of the Forest Haven. Show the Cabana Deed to the butler (literally) on the door to gain access.

Look at the ceiling to find a wooden beam. Throw the Grappling Hook at the beam to trigger a switch. A hole will be revealed in the fireplace.

The left path of the fork is a dead end. Take the right path and climb down into the hole. Watch out for Rats.

There are two tunnels that you can crawl through. Both lead to the same place eventually, but if you take the left tunnel and go left at the first opportunity you will find a room full of Rupees. The way forward is through a tunnel made of stone rather than wood. If you can see stone then you are going the right way.

Climb up the ladder and hit the switch on the left with the Skull Hammer to open the next area. The switch on the right opens a shortcut.

Climb down the next ladder. Take the tunnel on the left to find an Orange Rupee. Go back and take the other tunnel to reach another ladder. Hit the switch to open another shortcut.

Jump into the next hole cautiously. Defeat the two ReDeads, then smash the pot to reveal a crawlspace. Crawl through the tunnel and climb up the ladder at the end.

Play the Wind’s Requiem on the wind mosaic to make a Treasure Chest appear. Take the treasure: a Triforce Shard in The Wind Waker HD; a Triforce Chart in The Wind Waker. Hit the switch to open the last gate and head back to the entrance using the shortcuts.
