Chapter 1: Outset Island

1.1 Hero’s Clothes

Climb down the ladder to the base of the lookout tower. Head toward your house at the opposite end of Outset Island. Enter your house and climb the ladder to the upper level. Talk to your Grandma to receive the Hero’s Clothes. 

Underneath your house is a Treasure Chest containing an Orange Rupee (100). Look for a hole that you can crawl into underneath the front porch.

Return to the top of the lookout tower and talk to Aryll to receive her Telescope. Equip the Telescope and look at the red postbox, while following Aryll’s instructions. Through the Telescope you will see a giant bird drop a girl in the forest.

1.2 The Hero’s Sword

Climb down the lookout tower and go to the big building just down the road from your house. Enter the room on the ground floor and ask Orca to teach you how to use a sword. At the end of the lesson he will let you keep the Hero’s Sword.

Head up the path near the lookout tower. Use the Hero’s Sword to cut down the trees blocking your way. Cross the bridge and enter the forest.

Climb onto the tree stump and jump up to the ledge. Run up the fallen tree and drop into the next area. At this point, two more Bokoblins appear. Defeat them to rescue the pirate girl.

Aryll is kidnapped by the bird as you leave the forest. Your only chance of saving her is to go with the pirates. However, Tetra won’t let you come along unless you find a shield first.

1.3 The Hero’s Shield

Go back to your house and climb the ladder to the upper level. Where the shield should be is an empty space. Climb back down and talk to Grandma. She will reluctantly give you the Hero’s Shield.

The Bait Bag will be very useful on your quest and now is a good time to get it. Enter Beedle’s Shop Ship by the jetty and pay him 20 Rupees for the Bait Bag.

Catching the piglets scattered around Outset Island and bringing them to the pigpen at the top of the hill will earn you a total of 60 Rupees – 20 Rupees per piglet. They won’t notice you approaching if you crouch down first.

There is a Red Rupee (20) inside the house belonging to Mesa (the man cutting the grass). Crawl underneath a bench to find a Treasure Chest behind the wall.

Once you have the Bait Bag you can buy All Purpose Bait and Hyoi Pears. The Hyoi Pear is essential for solving a puzzle later in the game, but it isn’t strictly necessary to get the Bait Bag now.
