Big Octos

Beneath the waves of the Great Sea, six Big Octos lurk, waiting for innocent sailors to move into their reach. If you want to hunt these monsters down, you will have to sail to their sectors and search for a flock of seagulls. When you come close enough, the Octo will rise up from the water and a whirlpool will start drawing you in. The music changes, the weather goes bad and the battle has begun.

A Big Octo has 4, 8 or 12 eyes. These are the beast’s weak spots. Each eye has to be hit three times to defeat the Big Octo. There are three methods you can use to attack the eyes:

You can shoot the eyes with arrows
You can shoot the eyes with the cannon (only one hit per eye required)
You can throw your boomerang at the eyes

Using the boomerang saves you a lot of ammo and allows you to target multiple eyes at the same time.

You have to beat the Big Octo before you reach the center of its whirlpool. If you fail, the Octo will suck you and the King of Red Lions up and spit you to the edge of the sector you’re in, which means you’ll have to start over.

If you succeed, the Octo will die and you will receive a reward.

The chart on the right displays the sectors where you can find the Big Octo’s in the Great Sea and how many eyes they have. Below you will find the names of the sectors they lurk in and which rewards they yield.

Reward: 100 Rupees (To be picked up with the crane)
E5 – Private Oasis
Eyes: 8
Reward: 100 Rupees (To be picked up with the crane)
F3 – Fire Mountain
Eyes: 8
Reward: 100 Rupees (To be picked up with the crane)
C3 – Tingle Island
Eyes: 12
Reward: Piece of Heart (To be picked up with the crane)
F1 – Seven Star Isles
Eyes: 12
Reward: Piece of Heart (To be picked up with the crane)
