9.0 Preparing for the Labyrinth
This is the hardest Labyrinth in the entire game. If you haven’t taken the time to get all the Heart Containers and Optional Items in the game yet, it is highly recommended to do that right now.
From the starting screen, head right one screen, up five screen, left one screen, up one screen, cross the river and head up the stairs one screen, left two screens to find two large rocks that sort of look like eyes. Bomb the left rock to reveal a cave leading to the entrance hall of the final labyrinth of the game: Death Mountain.
9.1 The Compass
Pass through the entrance hall into the northern room. You’ll find two flames and two open doors on the north and west walls. If you came here earlier than this, you would have come across an old man that would have told you to find the other parts of the Triforce and then come back. We’ve done that, so he isn’t here.
Head through the western wall to find a dark room full of Wizzrobes and Bubbles. Use your candle to light up the room, kill or ignore the enemies, and bomb the northern wall to make it to the next room.
Here you’ll find two Lanmolas, a fast-moving enemy you have not encountered before. Kill them, and then push the far left block to access the secret passage in the center of the room.
You’ll come up on the other side of the stairs in a linear maze lined with five Like Likes. Most of them will be in your path, so kill them and then use the Magical Key to unlock to eastern door and head through it.
You’ll find a dark room with three Blue Wizzrobes here. You’ll get rupees if you kill them, but otherwise light up the room and bomb the southern wall and head through it.
In this next room you’ll find a pair of Zols, a pair of Like Likes, and a pair of Bubbles. Kill them if you want some bombs, otherwise bomb the southern wall and head through it.
Here you’ll find a pair of Orange Wizzrobes and a trio of Blue Wizzrobes. Kill them to grab the Compass.
9.2 The Map
Turn around and go north two rooms to reach the dark room and head through the eastern door. Here you’ll encounter a Patra. You’re going to have to backtrack to here at some point so kill it now and and then head through the south door.
In this room you’ll come across some old enemies: eight Gels. Kill them if you want, then bomb the eastern wall. Go through it to find another Patra. Kill it for the map.
9.3 The Red Ring
Bomb the northern wall and head through it to find a trio of Like Likes, a pair of both Orange and Blue Wizzrobes, and one Bubble. Do what you want with them, then bomb the northern wall and pass through it.
The next room with have a trio of Orange Wizzrobes, Blue Wizzrobes and Bubbles. Kill all the Wizzrobes, then push the far left block and enter the stairwell to access a secret passage containing the Red Ring, helping you die slower.
9.4 The Silver Arrows
Backtrack all the way to the first Patra we came across (if you forgot, go down two, left one and up one). Use the Magical Key to pass through the northern door to find an old man who tells you to “Go to the next room.” Good idea. Bomb the western wall and pass through it.
Here you’ll find a pair of Orange Wizzrobes and a trio of Blue Wizzrobes. Kill all of them, then push the left block to make a secret stairwell appear. Take it to head to another area of the labyrinth.
You’ll come back up in a room with five Zols, but you don’t need to fight them. Continue through the western door. The next room has eight Keese in it, but you don’t need to fight these either. Continue west.
Here you’ll have to fight yet another Patra. There’s also another key in here, but we don’t actually need that anymore because we have the Magical Key. Kill the Patra, push the far left block, and enter the secret passage to get to another area of the labyrinth.
You’ll come back up in a room with a pair of Orange Wizzrobes and a trio of Blue Wizzrobes. You might as well kill them all now, because you’ll have to later otherwise. Bomb the northern wall and head through to find a pair of Orange Wizzrobes, a trio of Blue Wizzrobes, and a trio of Bubbles. Kill all the Wizzrobes, then push the center block on the eastern side to reveal a secret stairwell leading to the Silver Arrows.
9.5 The Path to Ganon
Backtrack to the staircase and head back to where you fought the Patra where the key was. Head through the northern door to find six Like Likes. Be very careful here and continue north.
The next room contains four Blade Trapes and four Like Likes. Avoid all of them and head through the door on the opposite side of the room.
You’ll now be in a room with a pair of both Blue and Orange Wizzrobes, a trio of Like Likes, and one Bubble. You don’t need to fight them, just place a bomb on the western wall and head through it.
In this room, you’ll find a pair of both Blue and Orange Wizzrobes and four Blade Traps. Kill all of the Wizzrobes and push the left block to reveal another secret passage. Problem is, this one is under a Blade Trap. Walk in front of the Blade Trap to active it, then quick run into the passage before the trap resets!
You’ll come back on the other side in a room with another pair of both Blue and Orange Wizzrobes and four Blade Traps. Try to avoid the Wizzrobes, and use a bomb on the western wall and head through the hole.
Here you’ll find a pair of Like Likes, Zols, and Bubbles. Kill all the Like Likes and Zols, push the far left block, and enter the secret passage.
You’ll appear in the room south of Ganon’s chambers. Kill the Patra in here to unlock the door, and head inside to take him on.
When you enter the room, the chamber will fall into darkness. Link will hold up the Triforce of Wisdom, and with menacing music, the room will light back up and Ganon will appear. It’s time for the final battle!
Ganon’s is invisible for the majority of the fight. His primary attack is to disappear and shoot fireballs at you. You cannot block the fireballs.
Ganon moves around in a pattern. Watch where the fireballs are coming from, and strike where Ganon with your sword. Ganon changes his pattern after every successful hit. After four hits, he’ll turn brown. At this point, whip out the Bow and send a Silver Arrow into his face, causing him to explode into a collection of blood and ashes.
The Triforce of Power will also be among his remains. Pick it up to unlock the doors, and then head through the northern door. Slash at the fire to extinguish it and approach Princess Zelda. Hyrule is saved!
