The Missing Child
*This sidequest becomes available after placing the Ruby Tablet inside the Tower of the Goddess. This event will trigger all the other sidequests in this game, although some are not available until you’ve completed something else as well.
Once you’ve placed the Ruby Tablet inside the Chamber of the Goddess and left the tower, you can find Wyrna walking around this area looking for her daughter, Kukiel. Apparently she can’t find her anywhere, so she’ll ask you to help her find her.
If you head to the eastern side of Skyloft, you can find Orielle – she will have a thought bubble over her head, so go ahead and talk to her. She will tell you about this rumor she heard from this man who tells crazy stories about a strange monster who goes around kidnapping children. She will then tell you where to find this guy.
The man, who’s name is Rusta, can be found over at the Lumpy Pumpkin. When you talk to him, he’ll tell you about how he saw a monster near Skyloft’s graveyard and how he entered some kind of secret passageway through the storage shed there. Of course, no one seems to be listening to him, but we’re going to go investigate.
Return to Skyloft and find a bed to sleep in until night. Once it’s night, head to the southeast section of Skyloft where the graveyard is located, and then hit the gravestone that is located closest to the tree here. The stone will start glowing once you’ve hit it, so grab a hold of it and push or pull it. Doing so will cause the storage shed door to open, so head inside, go down the ladder, and then follow the path until you end up in the building where you will meet Batreaux, the demon of Skyloft.
Once you’ve entered, you’ll probably notice the little girl – who we can assume is Kukiel – who’s hanging around this room but doesn’t seem too startled that there’s a seven-foot demon standing at the back of the room. To activate the next event, draw your sword and strike at him. The demon will apologize for scaring you, and will then proceed to introduce himself as Batreaux, who is actually a very kind-hearted demon who just wants to be on good terms with the residents of Skyloft.
Obviously, we came here for Kukiel – Batreaux will then tell you he didn’t mean to worry her family, and that she will head home in the morning. Batreaux will then talk about the items known as “Gratitude Crystals”, which are created when humans help other humans. The Gratitude Crystals apparently have very special powers, and he hopes to collect enough crystals to one day transform into a human so that he can lead a regular life with the rest of the Skyloftians and not terrify anyone. Of course, he’s a bit of a scary sight and can’t walk around Skyloft during the day if he’s going to end up scaring people, so he asks you specifically to help him gather crystals. He will also give you rewards for all the crystalsyou collect for him.
If you head back to the main area of Skyloft and sleep somewhere in a bed until morning, go find Kukiel’s mother, Wyrna, and speak to her. She will be thankful to you for finding her daughter, and will reward you with your first five Gratitude Crystals. You can already get a reward from Batreaux for collecting five crystals, so you can head back to him if you like to collect your first reward.
First Ten Individual Crystals
Along with bunches of Gratitude Crystals – which you receive when doing tasks for people – there are also crystals that stand on their own, and you can find them by searching for them around Skyloft and other locations at night. At this point, you can only get the first ten crystals, as listed below:
- Found near the pumpkin patch on the eastern side of Skyloft, behind a tree.
- Found outside after going through the Waterfall Cave.
- Past the Waterfall Cave, hidden in the little cave where your Loftwing was trapped.
- North of the Bazaar, sitting on a lower ledge.
- Sitting in a plant vase near the second floor door in the Academy.
- Sitting on Link’s desk in his room at the Academy.
- Sitting up in the rafters in the Sparring Hall – collect it with the Beetle.
- South of the Knight Academy, sitting on a chunk of land that you can access by climbing down some vines.
- Inside Orielle and Parrow’s house (south of the Bazaar).
- Sitting on the backside of the Light Tower.
The Injured Loftwing
Head down to the southern part of Skyloft, near the Light Tower, and speak with Parrow. He will tell you that he’s worried about his sister, Orielle, who went flying a while ago and hasn’t come back yet. He will tell you that she was talking about the colorful island located in the southwestern sky, and will ask you to go find her and see if she’s alright.
Mount your Loftwing and start to head to the southwest part of the map, where you will soon see the colorful island – known as Fun Fun Island – that Parrow was talking about. However, we’re going to land on the small grassy island that’s located just a bit before Fun Fun Island. You will see that Orielle is here with her Loftwing, who is sprawled out along the ground and looks injured. When you land and talk to her, Orielle will tell you that her Loftwing is injured and can’t fly, and needs some special bird medicine to heal him. She will then ask you to go get some of the medicine from her brother, Parrow.
Jump back onto your Loftwing again and head back to Skyloft. You can find Parrow in the same area as before, so go speak to him and tell him the situation about his sister. He will then give you a bottle of Mushroom Spores, which can be used to heal Orielle’s Loftwing. This will also snag you a new empty bottle to use, however if you use Mushroom Spores you collected yourself in Faron Woods, he will simply reward you with an empty bottle.
Head back to the island where Orielle and her Loftwing are waiting and give her the Mushroom Spores. She will treat her bird with them and then she will thank you – you will also receive five Gratitude Crystals.
There are still five more Gratitude Crystals we can get in this sidequest, so head back to Skyloft and speak with Parrow again. He will thank you for finding and helping his sister return home, and will reward you with five extra Gratitude Crystals. You will also get an empty bottle if you collected the Mushroom Spores yourself in Faron Woods instead of receiving them from Parrow.
Peatrice’s Love Affection
As you probably already know, there is a booth in the Bazaar called the Item Check, which acts as a storage facility for you to put any extra items in so that you can create some extra room in your pockets and then come back for them later when they’re needed. The shop is run by a young woman named Peatrice, who may treat you a little bad at the beginning, but as you visit the shop and talk to her more, her feelings toward you will change. Her dialogue changes for every day that passes – this means that if you don’t sleep in a bed, nothing is going to change with her dialogue/feelings. The best way to do this sidequest is to simply progress through the game as usual and use the Item Check whenever you visit Skyloft before heading out to other dungeons. If you choose to do this sidequest all at once, you’re going to have to do a lot of running back and forth between the Bazaar and a bed to sleep in to change the days and speak to her to change the dialogue. So it’s highly recommended to just let her feelings grow throughout the game then do them all at once, as it is less tedious and is actually quicker than just doing it all at once. Speaking to her at night will also change the dialogue, so take note of that if you decide to do it all at once.
Eventually, Peatrice’s dialogue with Link will not pass a certain point and will remain the same no matter how much you talk to her and change the days, so when this happens, it’s time to further this sidequest and go speak to her father, Peater, who can be found in his house near the Bazaar’s southern exit at nighttime. If you haven’t met Peater yet here or at Bamboo Island during the day, he will merely introduce himself, so to keep going with this sidequest, you’ll have to find a bed again and sleep until the next night and then talk to him again, which will further this sidequest properly. Peater will ask you to go after a certain ‘lowlife’ who’s pestering his daughter, so agree to it and then go speak to Peatrice at the Item Check the next day. She’ll ask to speak to you at night.
**There are two different endings to this sidequest, however both of them will reward you with the same amount of Gratitude Crystals in the end, so choose the one you wish to do as you see fit. You CANNOT do both endings.**
- Ending 1 – When you go to meet Peatrice at her house at night, tell her that yourfeelings toward her is ‘true love’. She knows you have something important that youhave to do, so she will wait for you. Now whenever you see her at the Item Check, she’llcall you darling and ask you to come see her again soon. This ending will snag youfive Gratitude Crystals from Peatrice.
- Ending 2 – When you go to meet Peatrice at her house at night, reject her feelings oflove. Sleep in a bed until the next night and then go speak to Peater. He will be happyand grateful to you for getting rid of the guy who was after his daughter, and will rewardyou with five Gratitude Crystals. Of course, the ending to this sidequest is somewhatdepressing as Peatrice will go on about trying to get over you and your rejection.
Spring Cleaning
This sidequest becomes available after you have successfully completed the Lanayru Mining Facility in the Lanayru Province.
If you head to the area of Skyloft in the lower-right corner where several houses reside and go into the house in the center that’s a bit lower than the others, you will meet Pipit’s mother, Mallara – however, you’ll probably notice that her house is, well, a dump. She can’t seem to keep her house clean, so she’ll ask you to use your trusty Gust Bellows to clean it out – plus she’ll pay you. Agree to it and then equip the Gust Bellows. You’ll really have to clean out all the dust from every corner, furniture and windows included. Breaking jars in here doesn’t seem like a really big issue for Mallara, so don’t worry about breaking anything. Once you’ve finished cleaning, she’ll pay you 20 Rupees, as well as give you five Gratitude Crystals.
There’s an extra part to this sidequest that’s actually kind of funny, so if you want to watch it, go find a bed and sleep until nighttime, and then head back to Mallara’s house. You’ll overhear a pretty heated conversation between her and her son, Pipit, who is apparently angry at her for paying Link money from HIS wallet to clean the house for her, a task she should be doing herself. After completing this sidequest, you can return to Mallara’s house and clean again to get more Rupees – because she just can’t seem to keep the darn house clean anyway.
Fledge’s Work-Out Routine
*This sidequest becomes available after you have successfully completed the Lanayru Mining Facility in the Lanayru Province.
Before we start this sidequest, head to Luv’s Potion Shop in the Bazaar. She’ll have the Stamina Potion on sale, which will stop Link’s stamina gauge from depleting for a short amount of time. However, we’re not going to use it for Link, so just keep it in the bottle once you’ve purchased it (it costs a mere 50 rupees).
The next thing we should do is go find Fledge, who’s normally hanging around the Academy. When you speak to him, he’ll tell you that you should swing by his room at night to chat. Head to the Academy and find a bed to sleep in until night. Once you’ve done so, head toFledge’s room (it’s located right next to Link’s) and once inside, you’ll see that he’sattempting to do push-ups. He tells you that he’s having trouble with his work-out routinebecause he keeps running out of energy, and wishes that there was something he could use to give him a bit more energy to help him with his push-ups. Fortunately, we just boughta fresh bottle of Stamina Potion from Luv’s Potion Shop, so let’s go ahead and give it tohim.
You’ll have to progress further through the game to activate more of this sidequest, butonce you’ve done so by completing another dungeon (preferably the Ancient Cistern), head back to Fledge’s room at night and he’ll ask you for another Stamina Potion to give him that extra burst of energy. Give him some, and then when you go back to him after progressing further in the game again, he’ll be doing much better push-ups.
After you’ve given him the second potion and progressed quite a bit further into the game (preferably after the Sandship), you can visit Fledge again and he’ll thank you for all the Stamina Potions, and reward you with five Gratitude Crystals.
The Lost Party Wheel
Scrapper is going to be an asset to this sidequest, so once you’ve found him and repairedhim, you can mount your Loftwing and head to Fun Fun Island in the southwest region of the Sky. When you land there, you’ll find Dodoh, who isn’t his usual perky, fun-fun self. When you talk to him, he’ll explain to you how he lost the party wheel he used to carry with him and without it he can’t host the games for Fun Fun Island. To make matters worse, the party wheel has fallen down through the clouds to the land below. After speaking to him and agreeing to find his party wheel, Fi will register the party wheel as a dowsing target.
Mount your Loftwing again and head for the Lanayru Province. When the landing map comes up, select the “South Desert”. Once you’ve landed, head towards the mine cart that’s to the south of here and then blow up the rocks found here with some Bombs. You will find a Timeshift Stone hiding in one of them, so go ahead and strike it with your sword to activate it. Climb the vines that appear from the change, and then grab the nearby structure and pull it over far to the left. Keep heading along this path until you locate the party wheel. Once you’ve done so, get Fi to call Scrapper, and then use a Bird Statue to return to the Sky.
Once you’re in the Sky again, head over to Fun Fun Island and return the party wheel to Dodoh. Dodoh will be grateful to you for finding it and returning it, and will grant you five Gratitude Crystals.
The Love Letter
Head up to the Bazaar in Skyloft and you’ll see a man at the cafe area who has a thought bubble over his head. When you speak to him, he’ll tell you of a rumor going around concering strange things going on at the Knight Academy.
Let’s head to the Academy next to investigate. If you go speak to Henya the lunch lady, she’ll tell you that there’s someone making weird noises in the bathroom at night, and it’s becoming a real pain for people who are trying to get their sleep.
Head to an available bed in the Academy and sleep until night. When it’s night, leave the room you slept in and head for the bathroom that’s at the end of the first-floor hallway. When you get closer, you’ll clearly be able to hear a strange voice from behind the bathroom door. You won’t be able to go inside, but a voice will tell you that it’s in need of paper. You have to speak to the person in the bathroom, otherwise you won’t be able to progress further in this sidequest.
Once you’ve done so, find a bed and sleep until the next day. Now that we spoke with the person, you can find Cawlin walking around the first floor of the Academy. When you talk to him, he will tell you that he has a crush on one of the senior classmates.Of course, he’s too nervous and embarrassed to deliver the letter himself, so he’s depending on you to deliver it for him. And he will SPECIFICALLY ask you NOT to give his letter to the weird person in the bathroom who’s begging for paper.
Like the Peatrice’s Affection sidequest, there are two alternate endings to this sidequest – however, they will both reward you with five Gratitude Crystals. You cannot do both endings, so choose the ending of your choice.
- Ending 1 – Your first choice is to completely go against Cawlin’s wishes and – you guessed it – deliver that letter to the person in the bathroom to use as toilet paper. When you get to the bathroom at night, tell the voice you have paper and it will unlock the door for you. Once inside, you’ll see a bluish ghostly hand coming out of the toilet. Give it the letter and tell it it’s alright for it to use it. The person will then thank you and disappear back into the toilet.
Find a bed and sleep until day. The next morning, go find Cawlin. When he finds out what you did with the paper, he will be enraged and will run off to Groose’s room intears. Any time you speak to him now he will be angry at you.
Head to an available bed and sleep until night, and then head to Groose’s room. You’ll find Cawlin sleeping here, and he’s being caressed by the same ghostly hand we gave the letter to. The hand will say that it was touched by Cawlin’s letter and that it is happy to have found somebody with such feelings of affection towards it.It then promises never to leave Cawlin’s side. You will then receive five Gratitude Crystals from the hand. - Ending 2 – The other ending to this sidequest requires you to do as Cawlin asks and give the letter to his secret somebody, who just happens to be Karane. When she gets it, she’ll be excited, but she actually thinks it’s from Pipit and doesn’t realize it’s from Cawlin. When she reads it, she’s completely surprised about who it’s from and feels a little bad, and wonders what Pipit’s reaction to the letter would be.
Obviously, we’re going to have to find Pipit – he can be found roaming the halls on the second floor of the Academy. Upon speaking to him, he will seem very concerned over the letter Karane received from Cawlin.
Head back downstairs and go to the classroom where you’ll find Cawlin speaking to Karane about the letter. However, before Cawlin can finish, Pipit will show up and tell Karane HIS feelings for her. Karane will agree to go out with Pipit. The couple will thank you for helping them get together with five Gratitude Crystals – afterwards, you can find Cawlin locked up Groose’s room crying over Karane’s rejection.
The Missing Baby Rattle
In Skyloft, find Bertie and Luv’s house and use their bed to sleep until night time. When you’ve woken up during the night, go speak to Bertie. He will tell you that he’s been unable to get any sleep on account of the restless baby, who is very cranky and can’t sleep without his baby rattle, which has recently gone missing. He asks you to bring back the rattle to him if you happen to see it anywhere.
If you head to the east side of Skyloft, you’ll see that there are several islands floating here, including one with a waterfall. Now that we have the Clawshots, we can use them to find the rattle. Equip them and use them to latch onto the vines and then travel from island to island until you’ve made it to the biggest one. It should be noted that Individual Gratitude Crystal #14 is here at night, so if it’s still night while you’re doing this, go ahead and grab it. Travel around ot the south side of this large island and then look ahead. You’ll see the windmill ahead of you. Dash and then jump off the ledge and tilt the Wiimote forward so that you glide to the windmill where there is a nest made here. There’s a lot of dust piled up on this nest, so take out your Gust Bellows and blow it away – this will reveal the missing baby rattle.
Once you’ve acquired the rattle, head back to Bertie at night and give it to him. Now that the baby has his rattle, both him and Bertie will finally be able to get some sleep, and he will thank you with five Gratitude Crystals.
Last Five Individual Crystals
The last five individual Gratitude Crystals that can be found are listed below. Remember, they can ONLY be found at night (this includes inside buildings).
- Mount your Loftwing and head to Pumpkin Landing and then sleep inside the Lumpy Pumpkin until nighttime. Once it’s night, head to the second floor of the restaurant and you will find the crystal sitting on the counter.
- Head outside the Lumpy Pumpkin and take a right from the pumpkin patch, then follow the path until you reach the storage shed where the crystal is located.
- Enter Beedle’s Airshop and sleep in the bed inside until night. When you exit the shop at night, you will be on Beedle’s Island. The crystal is floating above one of the propellers, so you’ll have to use the Beetle to grab it.
- Head to the west side of Skyloft and you’ll find a few floating islands that aren’t attached to the main island. Use the Clawshots to latch onto the vines until you get to the big island with the waterfall, where the crystal is waiting.
- Head to the Academy and shimmy along the southern side to reach the vines that will take you to the top of the building. There is a chimney structure here, so latch yourself onto the target inside the section of the chimney and then drop down and crawl through the next tunnel to reach Zelda’s room. The crystal is sitting on the floor here (there is also a Piece of Heart inside her cabinet).
The Pumpkin Harvest
Head to the Lumpy Pumpkin and find Pumm’s daughter, Kina, who can normally be found outside the Lumpy Pumpkin during the day. She will have a thought bubble over her head, so go speak to her to trigger a new sidequest. She will tell you that it is time to harvest the pumpkins, but it’s a lot of work and it would be nice if she could hire someone else to do it for her.
We’re obviously not going to do it, so our next task is to find someone who’s willing to harvest pumpkins. Mount your Loftwing and fly to the Eldin region, and then land at the “Volcano East” landing point. Once you’ve landed, you’ll be right next to the volcanic structure in the middle of the southern section of the area. Use the air geyser to get inside, and glide your way down to the top-right pillar where you’ll see the Mogma Elder, Guld, sitting. When you talk to him, he will tell you about how he wishes to find a place where he can search for treasure where he’ll get paid for his work. He also adds that it would be nice if it was a place that wasn’t as hot as the Eldin region. Use Fi to call Scrapper and he’ll carry the Mogma to the Sky with you.
When you make it back to the Lumpy Pumpkin, Guld will be a little angered when he sees that you actually want him to do physical labor, but Kina manages to convince him otherwise. Kina will be very happy with you for finding a worker for her, and will give you five Gratitude Crystals. Also, if you go to bed at the Lumpy Pumpkin and speak to Guld at night, he will tell you that he thinks Kina may have a crush on him.
The Broken Crystal Ball
After you’ve defeated the Imprisoned the second time, head back to the Bazaar and you’ll see that Sparrot the fortune teller isn’t where he usually is at his fortune telling booth. When you chat with some of the locals here, they will tell you that Sparrot broke his crystal ball that he used to read the future and he hasn’t been showing up since.
Head over to Sparrot’s house (it’s at the far east of Skyloft) and speak to him inside and he will tell you about his broken crystal ball. He will recall how you fixed Gondo’s robot and will then ask you if you could find another crystal ball somewhere below the clouds for him to use. Fi will register the crystal ball as a dowsing object.
Mount your Loftwing and head over to Eldin; when the landing map comes up, select “Earth Temple”. When you land, head over to the air geyser to the left and use it to reach the higher platform there. Use your Clawshots to latch yourself over to the target along the temple wall and you will find the orb here that you can use to replace Sparrot’s crystal ball. Upon examining it, Fi will call Scrapper to pick it up and take it back to the Sky with you.
When you return to Sparrot’s house and give him the new crystal ball, he will be very thankful and will reward you with five Gratitude Crystals – he will also make the next fortune you get from him half price.
Beedle’s Missing Beetle
After you’ve defeated Levias, the Thunderhead’s normally-nasty weather will clear up and you will be able to find Stritch on Bug Island. He will also tell you that he has a game for you to play. You can practice a bit if you want – it will come in handy later.
After you’ve spoken with Strich (it’s essential that you do), head back to Skyloft and go speak to Beedle in his Airshop. When you speak to him, he will ask you to speak to him later on at nighttime. Sleep in the bed in the Airshop until night so you can wake up on Beedle’s Island.
When you speak to Beedle outside of the Airshop at night by the campfire, he will tell you that he’s lost his prized Horned Colossus Beetle. After you’re done talking to him, sleep in the Airshop bed until the next morning.
In the morning, head back to the Thunderhead and speak to Strich on Bug Island. He will be completely excited about the rare bug he just found. When you tell him about Beedle’s situation, he will tell you that he will only hand over the bug if you can complete his bug hunting mini-game. When you’ve won the mini-game and received the beetle, head back to Skyloft.
Sleep in the bed in the Airshop until nighttime and speak to Beedle outside. He will be relieved that you found his prized beetle and will reward you with five Gratitude Crystals.
A Special Request
When you’ve obtained the first part to the Song of the Hero, find Instructor Owlan in his room on the second floor of the Academy and he will ask you if you could help him find a new species of plant to study from the world down below. Fi will add the specific plant “specifications” from Owlan to your dowsing abilities.
Mount your Loftwing and head to Faron Woods. When you’re dowsing, you’ll eventually be lead to the Kikwi’s gathering grounds, and it will lead specifically to Oolo the Kikwi. When you speak to Oolo, he will still show great discomfort towards the monsters in the Faron region and would rather live somewhere where it’s safe. At the end of this discussion, have Fi call Scrapper so that he can take the little Kikwi to the sky with you.
When you land in Skyloft and speak to Owlan at the Academy, he will be completely amazed by the Kikwi you’ve brought him. Oolo will seem a little uncomfortable with what’s going on, but he will still take your word for the safety in Skyloft over the safety in Faron.
